I have a great grandmother who's name was Mary Csulach from around Hermadresce, Hungary. I know the spelling's different but the country is the same. Any connection?

Hi Sue,

At the moment all of our Tcholek/Tchulak/Chulyak/Csulyak's are coming from Vingaarad, Hungary and list themselves as Bulgarians on their papers. I haven't as yet come across your location or spelling but who knows..it may pop up. All my people settled in Altoona, PA.

I attempted to find Hermadresce, Hungary on the internet and was unable to, but was told it was not far from Budapest. Mary Csulach listed herself as a Magyar Hungarian.

Sue,

Go to Mapquest.com..that is how I found Vinga formerly Vingaarad. Also discovered that it was very close to the Hungarian Border and when the borders shifted during political re-alignment they were Hungarian one time and Roumanian the next..lol...all those history classes are starting to pay off..Also go to Keyword or use a search engine like Google.com type in Maygar Hungarian see what pops up. Never know what bit of information you will find..
Good luck,
Cynthia

My great grand father Andrew Csulak (1849-1938) came from Austria/ Hungary, He had wife, Mary Telisco. She did not leave Hungary. He lived in Bridgeport CT area, then remarried , had a child. I believe the childs name was George and they all settled in the St. Paul Minnesota area. I understand he changed his last to something like Chulock. Does that fit in to anything you have?
