Hi,
My great grandmother Rose(born in 1883 & died in 1962) was a Csargo by marriage. Her maiden name was Sebestian. I believe they came over to the States from Hungary in 1903, they had a daughter named Margaret(my grandmother, born in Hungary in 1900). They settled in the Detroit, MI area. Unfortunately, my mother doesn't have alot of family background information. Let me know if you think there's a connection.

Hi. Just so happens I'm looking for my Hungarian roots too. I am named after my grandmother Rose. She was born August 15,1896, died 1968.
My grandfather, Istvan, did live in Michigan, then moved up to the Iron Range in Minnesota. Hibbing, Minnesota. Our details don't match, but I can't help but think we are connected somewhere.
One more thing about Rose. Her last name was Mesei, but I do know she was married before, and it was annulled. So I thought perhaps her real maiden name could be Sebastian.

Good luck. I have more info about the Csorgo side if you want to compare notes.

Hi! Now and then I'm running into the Mike Csorgo name. It is not familiar to our family, but we have plenty of others. My grandfather Istvan came to the US in 1900. He was 16.
I do have a list of his sisters and brothers , his parents, and his grandparents. No Mike though. Hometown is Srud, heves county. Do you know Mikes hometown?
Good Luck!

Hello, Do you have a Rozalia (Rose) CSORGO married to a John (Janos) with children Katherine, Marie and Joseph? John was from Sarud, Heves Megye, Hungary also.

Mary,

My great grandmother was a Rozalia Csorgo but husband was Gabor Csorgo. She had two children that I know of: Margit (my gmother) and her sister Gizella. I would think if your Csorgo's came from Sarud too, there has to be some family connection. My gr grandparents ended up in Delray, MI area. Gabor came over in 1904. I'm trying to find out if he had brothers, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Surnames: CSORGO from Hungary
Hi Mary
Sorry, none of the names are from my CSORGO family that I can see at this time. All I have on my CSORGO family members is my grand father, Michael Csorgo came to the US in 1906. He settled in Athens, Ohio. He spent the last 20 years of his life in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. He was born in Budapest or Tagyraska, Hungary 1880 and died in Fairport Harbor, Ohio 1948. Don't know if he had any siblings. But I see that someone name Eilleen thinks that she has some connection to your Csorgo family and I hope that some day I can find that my family will tie to your family.
Thanks for responding to my e-mail.

Hi Paul,

I looked for your grandfather CSORGO, Mihaly on Ellis Island. The manifest of the ship Rhein, shows him going Oct. 25, 1906 to his Brother in Law, ANDRAS, Tamas in Athens, Ohio. The manifest also shows he was in the United States in the years 1899 and 1901. I can't make out the name of the town, but it was in Pennsylvania.

The typed version of the manifest lists his last place of residence as Tagyraska, Hungary. I read this to be NagyRaska on the manifest.

In the year 1908 CSORGO, "Erssebet" (typo should be Elizabeth) age 3 traveling with her mother Elizabeth, arrived Ellis Island Dec. 13. They were going to CSORGO, Mihaly (Michael) RFD #6, Athens, Ohio. I read the last place of residence as with Elizabeth's father PAL-TAMAS, Andras in the village of NagyRaska.

NagyRaska maybe in Slovakia or Hungary today. There is a Nagy Raska (Velke Raskovce) in Slovakia. However, in Hungary it could be one of five different places. Ask the people on the Hungary Board if they can help you find the right town.

Look at the Ellis Island site and see if you can find other CSORGO family from your NagyRaska town. Just remember that there are a lot of mistakes in the typed version of the records. You have to read the original manifest.

Good luck. Hope this helps you find some relatives.
