My Great-Grandmother's name was Mary Csonka. She died about 8 years ago. She lived in Bridgeport, Ct. I believe she lived in Naugatuck for a while before moving to Bridgeport. My Great-Grandfather's name was Joseph Csonka. He died many years ago.

Hi, Dana, My step grandfather was listed as Shanko on his marriage license to my grandmother in 1936 in Detroit, but he was Csonka on all other important papers.
He had been married first to a Katherine and had 2 sons,
John and Frederick George Csonka. I would like to see if I can find out who the parents of the stepgrandfather were, but getting info from any of the countries I listed is very hard. Am in process of going through what Utah has and it's not easy. Will need an interperter as the records are in the foreign language. Let me know what you get and maybe between us we can find something to help.
I've been doing geneology for about 20 yrs now and have finished my husbands (Adair) side and on my side I have Hungarian, Chec and other such countries and Germany and Poland also. Other names I'm working on are Barazsu, Kallos, so any help is greatly appreciated. you can email me at ladair7858@aol.com
Thanks for the return.

Greetings,

My family has Joszef Csonka too. I've been hunting for family history for the ast 5 years so I'll share a bit of what I've found. First, my grandfather Ferenc Kovary-Draga-Vilmai Csonka's shipregister lists Joszef as his father, and that he lived in Transylvania, in the capital city of Kiskükülló county, DicsõSzentMárton (FHL records: Microfilm Nr. 1819/20 Hungarian Land Census and Microfilm: Dicso Szent Marton FHL Microfilm Nr.: 1529950, item 3). His wife was Maria Draga Issekutz and according to my aunt, they had 12 children but only 3 survived: a girl, Maria, and two boys, Joszef and Ferenc. Maria was aged 95 when I visited her in Tirgu Mures and she said the family came from Szent Marton (although there are lots of these - still looking). I don't know much about 'uncle' Joszef, the brother, or if he had children. When Maria Issekutz was older, she got polio so the family moved to Arad (Szent Marton there too) for the 'waters' and that is where she died.

So Ferenc comes to the US to get his PhD and buys property, which worries the family intensely, so they arrange for him to marry a family friend's daughter, Lola Szabori-Zaborszky-Munkacsi Chovan, who leaves to live in the US.
I am the son of their daughter.

If you have any info to share, I would very much appreicate what you've found.
