Stephen "Steve" M. Cserney, age 93,
passed away Monday, October 8, 2012, at his residence. Born in Erie on September 2, 1919, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Halancsak) Cserney. He was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, Class of 1937. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, where he participated in a flight training program until the end of the war. Before his retirement, he worked in the Materials and Process Research Lab at Lord Corporation for 45 years. Steve enjoyed traveling, gardening and reading. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Schenker, Helen Mabrey and Elizabeth Schultz. Survivors include a brother, William "Bill" Cserney, of Erie; a niece, Mary Ann Mabrey, and her daughter, Alex Mabrey, and nephew, Michael Mabrey, wife, Ellie all of Houston, Texas, a nephew, Fred Schenker, wife Rose, of Gettysburg, Pa. and their children, Mark Schenker of South Riding, Va., Brian Schenker, wife, Chervelle of Frederick, Md. and Michael Schenker of Ohio; and a cousin, John Toth, of Erie. Friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 11 am at Saint Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 West 6th Street, followed by burial in Trinity Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard. Memorials may be made to St. Jude the Apostle Church, P.O.
