Hi Hilda,

My name is Clint Woodger. I am the Grandson of Hugh and Mary Cryans and son of Marie. I completely stumbled on this thread and have read your correspondence with Colleen my cousin. I just thought I'd write and help and a few more more "branches" to the tree. Hughie had brothers and sisters Joseph, John, Patrick, Margaret and Patricia. Margaret and Joseph remained unmarried and had no children.

John Cryans married (?) and had two children, Cameron and his sisters (?). My Grandfather Hugh was the eldest, followed by Patricia (I think), Pat, Joseph, Margaret and then John. I'm sorry to say that all have passed away and the Cryans name has no progenitor. Patricia Cryans married into the Lockwood family.

My Nanna Mary Cryans (nee Rush) is still alive and well (bless her). Mary and Hugh met in Glasgow in the 40's - I think they worked in a factory together. They had their first child Marie in 1951 - I think Mary was just 21 when my mother was born which would put Mary's birth date at 1930 (Feb 4, I think). My Grandfather was only a year older perhaps and born in June. I'd need to check details. After Marie, my Aunty Kathy was born (April 19 1952 or 3 - this is actually a really good exercise for me!). Then Helen (Colleens mum) and then Elizabeth.

My Mum was married to my Father, Stephen Woodger (now Brown), I was born in April 1972, then divorced a year or so after marriage. Marie then had another child, Justin to Stephen Bachelor - they were not married. Marie then had two more children, Anthony and John Cox (to Murray Cox, my stepfather).

Kathleen Cryans married Steven Gabrielli and had three children Tabatha, Kym (deceased) and Shane Gabrielli.

Helen has two children, Mathew and Colleen and Liz had two children also Stewart and Sarah. My nanna now has quite a few great grand children!

Just reading the thread hear has been very interesting I have to say as I did not think of Hughie as a junior - but I guess he was since his fathers name was Hugh as well. He use to have the nickname "Shug"... He was as rough and as Scottish as they come. Small stature, large personality - swore like the proverbial trooper. I looked up to my grandparents. They took care of me when I was child and I felt close to them both. I had always thought Hughie was "punching above his weight" when he hooked my nanna... Mary comes from a large and proud Scottish/Irish family (interestingly, the great Liverpool striker Ian Rush is my nanna's, father's brother's son - making them cousins).

Also - I am not sure Isa Cryans came out with Hugh Snr to Australia as I had never heard Hugh Jnr ever refer to what would have been his Aunty. I might ask about this however as I could be wrong.

If you want to know any more, just get in touch with me via the post and I will quiz my nanna on anything else you might want to know.
