No, I have no new information regarding Anderson's parentage. I have determined, using tax records, his birth year; and using court records determined about when he died (August 1824). We think his father might be Thomas, based on nameing patterns, but haven't been able to find any conclusive evidence to prove or disprove it. Have also pretty much determined that his widow, Nancy (Lynch) Crews remarried her 1st cousin, John Lynch, in Missouri but I haven't been able to get my hands on their marriage record after trying 3 different counties. His will mentions his wife Nancy, but doesn't give any of her other names. I have both their death dates, but apparently there isn't a well marked grave for either of them (I've attempted to ask someone to take pictures but got no response), no death records for either, and no land records that mention her, so I'm having an impossible time *proving* that he did indeed marry his cousin, Nancy Lynch Crews, but the census bears witness...

Is any of this new information for you? Do you have anything to correct or add? PLease let me know, ok?

Rita

Martha CRUSE, daughter of Henry CRUSE & Eliza J WHITINGER

Martha CRUSE (21 Dec 1842 - Dec 1866), was the 6th child of fifteen children born to Henry CRUSE (6 Feb 1812 - 5 Dec 1903) and Eliza Jane WHITINGER ( 4 Feb 1817 - [--Unknown--]) in Clay Township, Hamilton County, Indiana.

Martha was the 1st wife of Jacob Rodney CLOW/CLOE. Evidently, she died either in childbirth of their child Charles E. CLOE (1866 - 27 May 1940) or shortly thereafter. Charles was raised by Henry and Eliza.

Does anyone have information as to where Martha was buried?

Was your grandfather born around 1845? I'm also trying to do some research on a John H Cruse. He would have been my great grandfather. The John Cruse I'm trying to find information on married Mary E Cruse. They were both born in Bowdon, GA. but moved to Avondale, Ala. They had 6 children; Warner M. Cruse (b.1867), Lula P. Cruse (b.1869), John M. Cruse (b.1873), Jirru Cruse (b.1876), Julia Cruse (b.1878), and Pearl E. Cruse (b.1886). Pearl was my grandmother. My mom said that Pearl's mom died when she was a little girl and she went to live with her sister Julia.

Not sure if this is the right clan. I'm trying to locate John H. Cruse's parents and siblings.

Thanks
Wow, do we have a great coincidence! Your say Naomi CRUSE was born about 1810 in Culpeper Co., VA, and that she married Simon Thomas SOUTHER, who should have born within a few years of her, around 1805-1810. You also say that Simon was the son of Simon Wilhoit SOUTHER. I have searched Rootsweb, Ancestry, and the rest of the Internet and can find no one named Simon SOUTHER who was the son of a Simon Wilhoit SOUTHER. The ONLY people I've found with families where your names match are these:

Father: "Simeon" Wilhoit SOUTHER, b.1814, Boone Co., KY.
Son: "Simeon" Thomas SOUTHER, b.1861, Johnson Co., MO.
Son's wife: Naomi CRUSE, b.1865, Hancock, IL.

That's just really weird. Is it at all possible that you have mixed up Simeon Wilhoit SOUTHER with the wife of his son Simeon Thomas SOUTHER? Things just don't fit. The ONLY person named SOUTHER that comes close to fitting the father is, as stated, Simeon Wilhoit SOUTHER and he's the only one with that first and middle name I can find.

I'm sorry but there just is no other family records with the names that you gave for father, son, and son's wife with those dates.

George

My Grandfather was Dennis Cruse his mother Nancy waller (something like that) I think she was a twin wa from Indiana . His father was Henry was from Indiana or Kentucky. Dennis had two brothers Curtis and the other brother was called trouble (don't no real name). They were all from Ind. Ky, Ohio that area. Dennis wife (my grandmother) was Lorraine Mills-Cruse she was one of a triplet (Faith Hope & Charity)when two died her mother changed her name to Lorraine. I am also on face book.

Hi Caroline

I don't know what became of your great grandfather Henry George Cruse but I am in contact through my Cruse one-name study with several people who are related to you. Henry's line goes back to the late 1600s in the small village of Ogbourne St George in Wiltshire. Henry married Georgina Hannah Henderson in 1897 in Islington. I have a record of two children: Ivy Georgina, born in 1900, and Jessie Florence, born in 1905. Let me know if you want any further information.

Charles A. Cruse, of Lock Haven, PA,"son of, Frank and Dorothy Shaffer Cruse, of Lock Haven.PA,
Charles A. Cruse,,

Charles A. Cruse,
formerly of Lock Haven,PA
passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at River Woods Nursing Home in Lewisburg, where he had lived for the past six weeks.

Charlie and his wife resided at Ridgecrest Senior Living facility in Lewisburg for the past six years after moving from their home in Mill Hall.

Charlie was the son of the late Frank and Dorothy Shaffer Cruse of Lock Haven.PA,

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Jeannette E. Cruse, and two children, Colleen Brickley (Sam) of Center Harbor, N.H., and Thomas Cruse (Lynn) of Lock Haven,
as well as a sister, Judy Shoemaker (Charles) of Lock Haven. Other survivors include grandchildren: Samuel Brickley, Liz Brickley, Vicki Cruse Motter, Chuck Cruse, Brian Cruse, Mary Cruse Tew and Matt Cruse; and eight great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents,
Charlie was preceded in death by a son, Charles "Chuck" Cruse (Val) of Lock Haven,PA,
a sister, Betty Brown, and a brother, Frank Cruse, both of Mill Hall.PA,

Charlie graduated with honors from Lock Haven High School in 1946 and earned an Associate Degree in Accounting. He began working for the New York and Pennsylvania Paper Company in 1947 and was soon selected to be assistant office manager and then assistant to the division manager.

He became controller for Hammermill Paper Company when it acquired the local mills, a position he held for 23 years until his retirement in 1985.

During this time, Charlie was an active leader in many organizations: Flemington Methodist Church, YMCA Board, Corporate Board of Directors of Blue Cross of North Eastern Pennsylvania, Little League, Cub Scouts,
Clinton County PA,Community Foundation and others. Charlie was a school board director for 14 years and later was elected Clinton County commissioner. In all these organizations, he used his talents as a leader and financial advisor to help their operations.

In 1962, he was honored by the Lock Haven Junior Chamber of Commerce by his selection as "Young Man of the Year" for his numerous contributions to the community and people.

One of Charlie's greatest joys was his children and grandchildren. A good softball and baseball player, he began working with young people in the various church youth sports leagues early in his marriage and continued with his children's interests in Scouts and in sports.

Grandchildren proved to be Charlie's next candidates for interactions, and they can all tell tales about working through his math puzzles on trips with their Pop, seeking his help on their pitching skills and math homework, and helping him in his many gardens over the years. He even had a Math Study Group at one time, much like the Law School Study Group of television fame.

Each grandchild was treated to a trip of his/her choice as a 12th birthday present, and they all have wonderful memories of their "special time" alone with their Pop and Mom Mom.

Traveling became one of Charlie's passions. He and Jeannette visited both Disney World and Williamsburg, Va., 10 times, and the entire Cruse clan enjoyed many summers together at Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, April 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Donald Walker Funeral Home in Flemington. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Mill Hall.

Donations in Charlie's memory may be made to the River Woods Nursing Home Building Fund, 90 Maplewood Drive, Lewisburg, Pa. 17837, in care of Peter Geschwindner.

DNA testing is now helping to verify existing research and to link together lines which were previously not known to be related.
I don't know if you are aware but we have a DNA project for the Cruse surname (and other related variants). This line is not currently represented. If any male Cruses are interested in taking part you can find further information on the project website:

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/CruwysDNA

A lot of Cruse lines are now starting to come together with the DNA testing. It would be interesting to find out where this line fits into the bigger picture. Coincidentally the testing company are based in Houstan, Texas.

The worldwide Cruse DNA Project now has 29 members from six different countries (England, France, Australia, Canada, Thailand and the United States). We have made a number of exciting discoveries and have already linked together trees from different continents. We are looking at all variant spellings (eg, CREWS, CRUISE, CRUWYS, CREWES, SCRUSE, etc.) Participants are still sought for a number of lines which are not currently represented in the project. Further information can be found on the project website and on my blog:

http://cruwys.blogspot.com

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/CruwysDNA

Debbie Kennett
Sorry but it took me a couple of days to check through my files. I don’t know of any connection with your family
I have been able to trace my “Alabama” Cruse family to David Cruse b. 1821 who lived near Atlanta Georgia
I know that David’s father was from one of the Carolinas – but no other info. or if David had any siblings
If there is a connection with your family it could be a common ancestor before David.
The people who started this thread knew our family lived in Birmingham and some of them did move to Mississippi between 1900-1915?. I don't know if they were aware of the family originating in Georgia and the Carolinas. If I run across anything else of interest I will post it here. Lisa Cruse Carrozza
Interesting post! I'm a "Berkshire Cruse", more specifically a Boxford one (originally Ramsbury also)! My Paternal Grandmother was also from Whichurch (a Ballard). Anne Rebecca Cruse was my Gt. Grandfather's (John Cruse b. Boxford 1860) younger sister. We have known about the Bull family being distant cousins for many years. John Cruse and his family also moved to Whitchurch from Newbury c. 1899?
John and Rebecca's father was James Cruse b. Boxford 1804. He married Lucy Tibble (b. Boxford 1818) on June 24, 1860.It was his second marriage. James d. Boxford 1879 age 75, Lucy d. Newbury? 1888. James was a farmer/shopkeeper, possibly a baker also.
James father was John Cruse b. Welford, Berks. 1768, d. Boxford 1848. married Elizabeth Jessett (b. Hungerford, Berks. 1780, d. Boxford 1857) at Boxford Feb. 22, 1800
John's parents were Richard Cruse (b. Ramsbury 1740, d. Welford 1813) m. Mary Pithouse (b. Ramsbury 1741, d. Welford 1827) at Welford Oct. 12, 1761.
Richard's parents Miles Cruse (b Aldbourne, Wilts. 1709, d. Ramsbury 1783) m. Jane Brown (b. Ramsbury 1707, d. Ramsbury 1768) at Ramsbury April 23, 1728.
Miles parents William Cruse (poss. b. Ogbourne St. George 1685, d. Aldbourne 1758) m. Mary Cooper (d. 1728 Aldbourne) at Compton Beachamp, Berkshire/ Wilts? 1706
Much of this info from David Cruse and also Debbies website Cruwys News http://cruwys.blogspot.com
Please let me know if you would like further info. I believe that Henry Bull was a chimney sweep. Any info on the Bull family would be appreciated, also if you know anything about the Cruse and Ballard families time in Whitchurch and later Whiteparish, Wilts.
Best regards
Phil Cruse

Message Board Post:

I have been researching the BULL, DUCK family who have been living in Ramsbury in Wiltshire, Andover and Whitchurch area of Hampshire.

Whilst researching I came across a CRUSE from Boxford Newbury Berkshire England, the is the line from Boxford.

Descendants of Henry James Bull
Cruse's In Woodville/Spring Hill/Honey Island/Kountze/Port Arthur, Texas

I am looking for anyone that may have some knowlege of the Tom & Mattie Cruse family that lived in the Woodville or Spring Hill area. Tom and Mattie Cruse were my grandparents they had three (3) children Ruby Mae, R.A. Cruse, Tommie Lee Cruse (my father). Mattie Cruse (Maden name unknown) had a sister named either Sophronia or Fronnie who's family lived in Spring Hill. Tom and Mattie Cruse moved from Spring Hill to Honey Island to Kountze, Texas where they both lived until their deaths. My father moved to Port Arthur and lived until his death in 1988, my uncle R.A. Cruse lived in Chicargo after getting out of the Army and then moved to Kountze and lived there until his death in 1993, and my aunt Ruby Mae Cruse-Brown lived in San Antonio, Texas until her death in 1984. I have been told (don't know if fact or fiction) that my grandfather had two (2) brothers one moved to Oklahoma and the other to Sherevport, La. If anyone knows of these people please contact me. Thank you for your assistance.
