Cruse Family Tree (Book) - LaRue County, Kentucky

Surnames: Cruse, Walters, Reed
About 20 years ago a lady in Hodgenville, LaRue County, Kentucky, after years of extensive research, had a book published of the Cruse Family that included Grover C. Cruse of Hodgenville and later Hammonsville, Kentucky. Grover's wife's name was Audrey Helen. They had seven children; Leo, Hartzell, Wayne, Dorothy, Louise, May, Laura. If anyone knows how a copy of this family tree can be obtained or who the publisher was, I would appreciate any information at all. It seems that the lady who did the research had the last name of Highbaugh, but I cannot be certain.

This is news to me! A book on Cruses? Wow. I am from Hardin Co, Ky now living in Az. I wonder if the name Audrey was a Helm? I know Cruses married Walters, Highbaughs and many other names, and seems Helm is familiar. I heard of Grover Cruse. Sure he is in my records. Will have to look for some of it. I descend from Robert Lee Cruse who mar Belle Blankenship, He was s.o. David Henry Cruse and gr son of Prosser Cruse. I have a lot of info on the line. Just finished finding info on a son of Dave Cruse, named Willie who moved to Calif. He married Annie Reynolds. Finally found his death certificate in LAA. Calif. Interesting that he was a motorman on the Electric Railray for 35 years. Then found a picture & history of the Railway on the internet. Made me "know him" when I had nothing before.
Any info I can help you with? How are you connected? Janet Cruse Jensen

I got the message that you posted on the BB. Prosser Cruse was my grandfather's brother, I think. But, I know I heard my Mom talk of him. Most of the other names sound vaguely familiar. Grover Cruse (my grandfather) was married to Audrey Helen (Last Name before marriage, I dont know). His father's name was Chatsfield Cruse. They came from Kansas I believe. Grover Cleveland Cruse, born at Hart County, Kentucky, 1891, was a son of George Chaton Cruse (the name "Chaton" comes from his death certificate; however, I suspect it should have been written "Chatfield"). Although I have found some confusion about this family, I think it likely that Grover's mother was George's probable second wife, Sarah Wilson (I don't know her parents). George Chaton was a son--not brother--of Janet Jensen's ancestor, Prosser Cruse. This large Cruse family lived at or near what now is Upton--which is in LaRue County but very close to both Hardin and Hart Counties (which is why they are found in records of all three counties--and nearby Grayson, Edmonson Counties, etc.). Grover and Audrey (and Prosser) are buried in the Bacon Creek Cemetery--in northern Hart County near the southern edge of LaRue. I am not aware of any Cruse "book"; but, if you find one or if you have unpublished info about this family, I also would like to know about it. (I am not a Cruse descendant; rather, I have for a dozen years attempted to identify descendants of the several and large Bomar families of circa 1805 and later Hardin-Hart-LaRue. Prosser's wife's mother likely was a Bomar.)

Was extremely happy to see the info that you posted on my family. I havent asked my mother yet, but I do think that my grandmother Audrey Helen was a Pringle before marrying my grandfather, Grover Cleveland Cruse. I will verify and post it here to correct. You are correct that my great grandfather's name was George Chatsfield Cruse. (In fact I have a picture of him). Yes, my family in buried in Hammonsville, Kentucky which is now located in Hart County. In fact, the land that the cemetery in Hammonsville is now located on was donated by my grandfather to the community to use. If anyone is interested, the "family plot" is on the right front end of the cemetery facing the road and the church. If anyone else has any information that you believe to be accurate pertaining to my family, especially before they came to Kentucky from Kansas, I would great appreciate you emailing me directly at: norman-walters@home.com
Thank you for your cooperation.

I am way behind on details of my Cruse tree. I am a descendant of David Cruse, s/o Prosser Cruse. One of David's sisters who married a Middleton went to Wellington, Kansas, so it may be that Walters went to Kansas rather than coming rrom there. The story told to me was that the Middleton married to the Cruse, was named Charles and he got into some trouble with drinking. Some people, family or friends, broke him out of jail (at Sonora?) and they left right away for Kansas.
My own dad was FL Cruse, or Fonnie, Fonzie or Alphonso (the latter being his real name). He was b 1898 and died 1872 at Elizabethtown, Ky, buried at Upton, Ky. I grew up at Sonora myself. Too bad that a family as large as ours has hit a brick wall with finding origin of the Cruses or Crews as Prossr's father, John Crews was known. and Also the Merrits, have been hard to locate after leaving Bedford Co, Va. Lots of luck. Janet Cruse Jensen in Phoenix

Hello!

I am the gr gr grandaughter of James Ferguson and Lucinda Long. James' sister was Sarah Frances Ferguson and she married Prosser Cruse. They lived in Upton, KY and both are buried in the Bacon Creek Church Cemetery in Hammonsville, Hart Co., KY.

I am curious if you have any information on the whereabouts of Sarah and James' parents graves? David Ferguson and Elizabeth Bomar (John Bomar & Nancy Neeley's daughter) married 17 Jun 1803 but that is all the documented facts I have found on them. Can't locate where John Bomar is buried, either.

Hello!

Sarah Frances Ferguson married Prosser Cruse, Magnolia, KY. Sarah would be my gr gr aunt on my father's side. Both are buried in Three Forks at Bacon Creek Church Cemetery, in Hammonsville, Hart Co., KY.

I took photos of their tombstones, as well as my gr gr grandfather, James Ferguson and Lucinda Long Ferguson's gravestones.

Sarah and Prosser had a daughter named Clarrisa. She is buried beside them.

I am very interested in this Cruse line. However, I came to a dead end and have tried to find more on Prosser Cruse & Clary Merritt, his wife. I do not have my records with me at the mountain home where I am on vacation. I do have a bit more, but not in my memory at this time.
I will be back in October, last of month, if anyone wants more details then. Janet Cruse Jensen of Ky & Az
