Hi Guy!
I think you may have spoken with some of my relatives in your search- Gus Crucil of Carson City, Nevada is my half uncle while Rudy Crucil of Sechelt, B.C., Canada is my father.
My mother and I have been working on tracking down our relatives on the Crucil side but unfortunately it's a fairly onerous task. With such an unusual name, you'd think we'd all be related somehow and it should be simple to keep track of all of us, but alas, no such luck.
My grandfather, Augusto Crucil was born in Rodda but later lived in Pulfero which is approximately 1 hour north or Udine. He came to Canada with his brother Frank sometime around 1910-1917 but no one seems to have any real official documentation on him (ie: no port of entry, no registration, etc.) even though we suspect he came through Ellis Island or Montreal (the two big ports of entry at the time). In our family tree, we don't seem to have any Antonio listed although there were six or seven siblings.
The real problem seems to with the name itself. My grandmother always said that Crucil was a name like Smith in the Fruili region of Italy. When my sister and I went to Italy on an exchange in 1988 (through a local organization which promoted Fruilan roots) we looked in every phone book we could find and it seems there were only two or three Crucils listed, all of whom were distantly related to my grandfather somehow. You have to be related somehow!
There are two other people in our family who may be able to help you. My dad's cousin, Anna (I think she still goes by the name Crucil) has done the most reserach of our extended family tree. Her brother, Frank Crucil, has a son (either Michael or Frank Jr.) who has been to that region of Italy and speaks Italian so he might be a useful source. Both Anna and Frank live on Vancouver Island (Crofton and Ladysmith respectively).
I'm not sure if my mom (I think you may have spoken with her- Pat) offered to send you copies of our documentation, but if you are interedted, I could always try to e-mail you some so you can see if it meshes with what you have. Hey, us Crucils gotta stick together!
Good luck in your search!
Julia Crucil
