I am in the Cruce line as well. My mother was Ethel Meynell Cruce and her father was Ambrose Luke Cruce. My mother worked with Priscilla Johnson Montgomery as she put together her 1994 publication, An Outline of Cruces. She started with Richard Cruce coming from the turmoil of Belfast, Ireland to the US Spartanburg District in South Carolina, tracing various branches of the the Cruce Family from The Kentucky Cruces (Isaac Newton Cruce, Richard Cruce, Stephen S. Cruce, Isaac Newton (3rd),James S. Cruce, Charity Cruce, and Thomas Gregory Cruce; the Georgia Cruces( actually encompassing Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas and Texas) including Stephen Ambrose Cruce who came with Richard Cruce to Texas and thus to my family tree. Pricilla Montgomery has copyrighted her publication, but I may have an address where you can contact her. My e-mail is
coralea.hobson@tx.rr.com if you wish to contact me. Mrs. Montgomery used the Eugene Hosic Outline of Cruces as a reference as well. Mrs. Montgomery made inquiries, but after employing Mr. Andrew Davidson KLJ, FRASAI to do the research in Belfast, Ireland found only 17 references to Cruces in Belfast, Ireland, at St. Anne's Episcopal Church. It was believed records prior to 1745 may have been lost. Some of the adjoining counties were also searched. It was believed the surname was first introduced into Ulster after the Restoration of the Monarchy in 1660.
Best wishes, Coralea
