Michael Croak (b 1845 in Ireland) & Margaret Hazlett (b 1845 Pennsylvania) had a daughter, Anna S.(Stacia)Croak in abt. 1868/1969. She gave birth to a son (James Edward)in abt. 1901. He was given the surname Croak. Does anyone know who James Edward's birth father was??? Family legend has it that he was a major league baseball player of the period & perhaps living in Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. Or ,perhaps the birth father simply lived in Lock Haven or visited Lock Haven (?). We were told that Anna S. Croak worked as a "domestic" in the baseball player's family home. Please contact if you should have any information... Thank you!

Well, I am assuming you have seen my file on ancestry. Michael Croak (b Apr 1845 PA; d 25 May 1917 Clinton, PA) & Margaret Hazlett (b Aug 1844 in PA; d May 1817) were shown as parents of Anna S Croak (b Nov 1869).

I had not traced her farther than the 1900 census, but when I got your message I looked a little farther & found her in the 1930 & possibly in the 1940 census.

In the 1930 census, she had her son, James E Croak (b 1902 in PA).

In the 1940 census it appears to be her Annie Croak (b 1867; widowed; r Woodward Clinton, PA @ 18014 Lower Swissdale) but she is living with her 'brother' Crant (maybe Grant) Reeders & a newphew names Victor G Emery. Those relations don't appear to work with the Annie Croak in the 1930 Census.

But to answer your question, I have no info on the father of James E Croak (1902).

I use a designation of H8 in all this families names. The reason I do that is because it is a Haughney family that MIGHT have some relation to my great-grandmother, but as of now I can't make the connection.

I guess your only chance might be a birth cert for James Edward Croak.

Sorry I haven't been much help. Good luck!

Dear Jay,
You are kind to have taken note & responded so quickly. My mother remembers Anna S. (her paternal grandmother) being referred to only as "Annie". This Anna "Annie" S. Croak passed away a few years prior to my mother's birth in March, 1934, Lock Haven, PA., so... the lady in the 1940 Census (Noted as "farmer", I recall, is definitely not the same person). As for the identity of her son's father, perhaps this info is forever lost in time. I have examined his birth record and he is simply noted as "Croak" in all respects with the Father line left blank. Many thanks & happy genealogy! Take care- Bill wsbjr@netzero.net
