CROAD, Dorset & Hampshire
I have lots of information on CROADs. The earliest is William CROAD buried in Sydling St. Nicholas, Dorset on 4 Dec. 1726. Descendants went on to live in Alverstoke & Portsea in Hampshire. They were mostly shipwrights in the Royal Dockyards. My G.Grandmother was Sarah CROAD born 21 Sep. 1859 at 3 Prestage St., Poplar, Middlesex. She died 25 Jan. 1963 at 4 Belgrave Rd., Wanstead, Essex. I've read the messages posted recently & have no known connections with Devon, Isle of Wight or Weymouth.

Re: CROAD, Dorset & Hampshire
Sorry, but this isn't very helpful. If you'd like to give me the names, dates, locations of the grandparents (as much as you have) I may be able to find them in my notes, or on my tree. I have no record of the 4 names in your message. kind regards, Andrew

Re: CROAD, Dorset & Hampshire
Sorry, but I can't trace these people in my notes. I suspect that I do have info. on their ancestors. However, I don't have every line traced down to the current generation & therefore can't connect these people into what I have. If you'd like to contact me direct, I'd be happy to let you have a copy of my CROAD data plus the details of some other CROAD researchers. Just let me know if you'd like a gedcom or Family Tree Maker file.
This is an unusual surname, but I have failed to connect my data with that from some other researchers with ancestors in Devon & the Isle of Wight. You may find better luck with them. I've tracked my ancestors back to Sydling St. Nicholas in Dorset at about 1650. They travelled around a lot later on, mostly working in the Royal Dockyards.
Sorry I can't be of more immediate help. Andrew

Re: CROAD, Dorset & Hampshire
Hi Andrew, I'm researching HENRY CROAD who came from Portsea. I beieve he was born around 1800??? He emigrated to Australia around 1830 or thereabouts (I think). It is believed that he built his own ship and sailed it to Australia (shipwright / sea captain). A brother was supposed to have done the same but went to New Zealand. He had a daughter Sophia Jane Elizabeth whom he named after his three sisters back in England. Any help with reseach would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Maree O

Maree
My cousin Zoe passed mr some infromation of a realtive, Henry Croad who was living in Australia in the mid 1800's. His father was John Croad and his mother Sophia (nee Judd). He had a sister also called Sophia and a brother Thomas as well as 5 other brothers and sisters. They all came from Portsmouth although I believe Henry may have been actually born in Whyke Regis in dorset (Perhaps on a visit to relatives in Dorset)
Dont know if any of this helps. Let me know
Nigel
