Hello

i don't think any of these people have anything to do with the shipbuilders and repairers Belliard Crighton. It started in Antwerp in 1877 and the name of the Crighton involved was Robert. One of this family was still involved with the company until WW11.

c Abbott
Oxford Uk

Hello. I'm Rex Crighton's ex-wife, Dora Cavey. I also have 2 family trees going for each side of my family: maternal/paternal. Angela Crighton is Rex's living daughter and has 3 children: Angelo Crighton, Jaylene Morales and Abel Torres, Jr. Jason Crighton died in 1994 in an odd pedestrian accident. I would love to give my grandkids information about their family and am asking if you wouldn't mind making me a "guest" so that I can share their family's tree. It would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Crighton/Crighton name search in Scotland

I looked back at my original post and noticed that I typed in 1957 for the marriage date of Charles and Mary when it should have been 1857 and that Charles is actually my great-great grandfather, not g-g-g-gf. However, in the research I have done, the Charles in question seems to have been married prior to marrying Mary Spence. It was noted on the extract of marriage that he was a widower. I have been unable to locate any information on his first marriage. Charles was born in 1821 (his Christening date is October 13, 1821) in Tannadice. His parents were Alexander Creighton and Jean Bowman. Of Charles and Mary's children, their son David (born July 9, 1865 in Tannadice) is my great-grandfather. He married Mary Dunbar Anderson December 5, 1884 in Glamis and their son James Webster (August 5, 1897) is my grandfather. The Charles I have mentioned did have a son James, but he was born Nov. 27, 1873. Of course, this does not mean that Charles didnt play around and have an illegitimate child in early 1857 (he didnt marry Mary until December of 1857). I hope this helps. Let me know if you discover any connection from the information I have given you with your information.
I am currently searching for more information on the Crighton/Crighton surname in Scotland. I have gotten back to the mid 1800's, but am stuck there. My great-great-great grandfather's name was "Charles Crighton and he married Mary Spence on Dec 11, 1957 in Tannadice, Scotland. Also, any info on William Anderson and Anne Baillie who married Jan 2, 1846 would be appreciated - or places I could look. I would like to find out their birthdates and any other information that would help me dig deeper into my family history. Thanks.

Hi Michelle,

Rosina (Rose) Crighton (according to the info I have was born in 1902 but this may be vague) was my great Aunt. Her brother John(nicknamed Jack) Crighton being my Great Grand Father. Her parents were indeed in ship building, my Great Great Grandfather James Crighton was the Managing Director of the "New Waterway Ship Building Company" based in Schiedam, Holland.

They moved to a house at Shackleford just outside of Godalming, England. The house was called Burdon Hall (now called Granton House). I have historic photos of my Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandfather at the House.

I believe that Rose had a daughter Penny (married to Peter - and who are still in touch with my Grand Parents), who is living in New Zealand - I guess she is a relative of yours?! I have some Crighton history back to the mid 1800's until they go to Ireland and I'm struggling with info beyond that but I'm working on it!!

Drop me an email at my first name at my full name dot come if you'd like any further info!

Best of luck in the search!

Tim Crighton

James Crighton in Edinburgh

I have just learned some new information on my 2nd gr-grandmother, Jeanette Creighton, who was born in Scotland. In a deed, Jeanette and her husband, Ignatius Grauel, mortgage their land in Howard County, Maryland for $500 in 1876 to a Robert Thomas Crighton. In 1886, a James Crighton, living in 16 Dean Terrace, Edinburgh, gives Robert 100 pounds, and he discharges the mortgage. James is discribed as Jeanette's uncle, I'm not sure what relation Robert is to her. On searching Scotlandspeople, I have learned that James died Feb 24, 1890 in Edinburgh, he was a "sometime" merchant. Thomas was in shipping, and was the "son of Robert Crighton, Birgham, County of Berwick". He died Jan 29 1901. I can't seem to find anymore information.

Could anyone help me pull these bits and pieces together? This is the first light I've seen through this brickwall in years!

Beth Ann

He was dining car conductor of a Denver & Rio Grande train, into the rear of which crashed a Missouri Pacific train, the engineer of which supposed the track to be clear. Twenty people were more or less inured in the wreck, Mr. Crighton, perhaps, the most seriously.
Hi, I am researching my g.g.grandfather Daniel Crichton. He was born in Scotland in the early 1800's not sure where. He married Elizabeth/Betsy Grant and they lived in Angus/Alyth Perthshire and had 12 children the first 4 were born in Angus and the other 8 including my grandfather William Forbes Crichton were born in Alyth. My grandfather migrated to Australia and married Lucy Hendle and then my grandmother Annie Resch.
Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Julie.
Hi Eric,
You can look up all Births, Marriages and Deaths after 1855 on the fee paying site Scotlandspeople.gov.uk It costs £6 (about $12) for which you will be able to search for and print off 4 actual certificats. They also have an OPR index where you might be able to find any records prior to 1855. Not all records from then have survived or were recorded on the OPRs but you might be lucky.

As you suggest "my" James Crighton was the illegitimate son of Charles Crighton, born to Anges Stewart 14 February 1857 in Kirriemuir. He was brought up by his grandparents and his mother went on to marry a Roberet Robertson. However, I still have some work to do on finding the right Charles Crighton, as there is another likely suspect much closer to Agnes in age.

I can't get past my great great grandfather James Crighton born at Kirriemuir, Angus, 14 February 1857, the illegitimate son of Charles Crighton and Agnes Stewart, and died in Dundee, 17 May 1926. 1861 census shows him age 4 and living in Kirriemuir with his uncle and aunt, George and Elizabeth Stewart. His marriage certificate gives his mother's name as Agens Crighton, but I can find no trace at all of his parents, other than that they both seem still to be alive in 1879 but dead by 1926, so I would really appreciate any help.

Hi Michel,

I have been trying to link my family to a company of boat builders called Belliard & Crighton who had yards in Antwerp, Calais & Le Havre. I believe that the company started its activities in Antwerp in the early 1900s and expanded its activities further West after WWI. Maybe they also expanded East to Rotterdam? My gg Grandfather Alexander CRIGHTON moved from Dundee to France in about 1866 with his wife Matilda and three children; James (b. 1862), Isabella (b. 1863) and Matlida (b. 1865 - My g. Grandmother). They had at least one more child in France - John (b. 1867) who became a marine engineer.

How much do yo know about Rosina's father James? Could Rosina's father & my gg uncle be one and the same person? I was trying to link John CRIGHTON to the Belliard company since he was a marine engineer but maybe I should be looking for a link with James?

Regards,

Al

CRIGHTON (several different) in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA)

Crighton, Elizabeth
Crighton, Moses
Crighton, Moses
Crighton, Jr., Moses Hoge (Mo)

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes).

I extracted all of the names (& some other information) from the yearbook & have put them on my genealogy web site (total of 13 web pages, containing over 1,900 records; sorted alphabetically by surname).

The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site, not just data about the families I am researching. I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

hi Judith,

I would be very interested in knowing more about your family - particularly if you know any details of your grandparents (or older generations) of Crightons ...

Let me know r_a_macdonald@hotmail.com

Regards
Bob
