James Crighton in Edinburgh

I have just learned some new information on my 2nd gr-grandmother, Jeanette Creighton, who was born in Scotland. In a deed, Jeanette and her husband, Ignatius Grauel, mortgage their land in Howard County, Maryland for $500 in 1876 to a Robert Thomas Crighton. In 1886, a James Crighton, living in 16 Dean Terrace, Edinburgh, gives Robert 100 pounds, and he discharges the mortgage. James is discribed as Jeanette's uncle, I'm not sure what relation Robert is to her. On searching Scotlandspeople, I have learned that James died Feb 24, 1890 in Edinburgh, he was a "sometime" merchant. Thomas was in shipping, and was the "son of Robert Crighton, Birgham, County of Berwick". He died Jan 29 1901. I can't seem to find anymore information.

Could anyone help me pull these bits and pieces together? This is the first light I've seen through this brickwall in years!
