I am interested in finding persons related to CRIBBETTS in the US from England. There are not that many in the US and am trying to tie them all together. In particular, looking for a James CRIBBETT, ca 1840 in England, who married Anna TAYLOR, b. Wales and they came to the US about 1867 and lived in Iowa, Kansas and Florida.

I have seen others in Illinois and Kentucky and wonder if / how they are related.

Thank you!!

BJ

I am a descendant of Robert Cribbet (& Susan Ann Leaman) who I believe came from Devon with a James & John Cribbet in about 1850/1851. My great grandfather (Robert) settled in Cincinnati, Ohio-where my grandfather father & I were all born. Robert and Susan had 3 sons: Robert B, Frank & Burton (my grandfather). While its true that Cribbets were few in the US we DO have a nice number of people now! I can help with my side of the family but I know precious little of the other brothers of my grandfather.
Your Possible Cousin,
Joyce Cribbet Leonard

Hi Joyce, I think we're related. My great grandfather was Burton Cribbet. My grandfather was Donald V Cribbet and my dad is Donald D Cribbet. I'm Travis Cribbet. I was wondering what information you found out about Robert Cribbet (born 1838 from England). I think his name lost the 't' at some point because it appeared in an early census I read.

Hi Travis!
We are indeed related!! Your Grandfather-Don-was my dad's (Bob) younger brother-twin to Ronald Cribbet-thus, my Uncle! I remember your dad, he was a couple years younger than me and your Aunt Donna Dare was a bit older than me. We had lots of great fun together as kids whenever my family came to Ohio! I remember on one occasion Uncle Don, Aunt Jimmie & Donna Dare & Don visited us in Macon, Georgia. Your dad had a blast rolling around on our kitchen floor giggling and playing with my new puppy!

I do believe, like you, that Robert Cribbet dropped the second t from our last name. In England most of our family has kept the second t. There are more Cribbet descendants here in the states now than there are in England, according to a cousin who I have been corresponding with.

Robert Cribbet was born in Widecomb by the Moor, Devon, England on January 8, 1836. He immigrated to the states in 1851 with two of his brothers-I THINK they were his brothers!. He married Susan Ann Leaman (b. 8/1840, d. 11/2/1911 in Union Clermont, Oh) Susan was also born in Widecomb. They had 3 sons one of which was our Grandfather-Burton.

I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have! I do have a good bit of family info on ancestry.com so I will add you to my list of people who can view my/our tree. Also, I have the family Bible in my possession, if you like I can send you copies of the pages that have inscriptions on them. One day I hope to have the time to load them onto my ancestry account. It would prolly be easier to communicate via email if you like. My email addy is: joyceleonard@hotmail.com I can also send you the emails that I have from our cousin, Andy Cribbett, in England if you like. He has given me permission to share them with the family! He has sent some nice info on the England branch.

It's great to find you!! Also, I have a facebook account. You can find me if you search for Joyce Cribbet Leonard. I sure hope your family is well! Stay in touch!!
Joyce :)
