Creas of Pennsylvania, from Ireland?

I have a reference which states that one of
my ancestral Creas (James Crea, b Jun 18,
1836 in Ireland) emigrated to Pittsburg[h],
Pennsylvania in 1852, by himself, when 16,
and "stayed with an aunt and uncle on the
Crea side of the family. (The branch of the
Crea family that James Crea lived with at
Pittsburg came to America prior to the
Revolution. The family consisted of seven
sons who served in the Revolutionary Army
and were given grants of land in Pennsylvania
in lieu of monetary payment for their
services in the Army. This family was well
established and was a prominent family of
Pittsburg when James Crea arrived in this
country.).

I have conflicting references that state
that this James Crea was born 1. "on the Island
of Kilkenny" and 2. in Dublin, Ireland.

Can anyone supply me with information on the
Pittsburgh, PA Creas in that Revolutionary
War period, and how they trace back to
Ireland, or other details of them and their
lineage?

Dear David,
I have a Wm. Crea's petition to become an American Citizen. I am doing research to see if he is related to my Cray family - both lived in Erie, PA. Do you have a Wm Crea, in your tree, who came here from Ireland in 1851? Did anyone in your family "Americanize" their name to Cray? You can write me at Leona@home.msen.com
Thanks, Terri

I am married to George Crea, son of George Crea, Sr. who came from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My husband's grandfather was John Crea, married to Santa Moscella. John Crea's parents, it is told, came from Calabria, Italy. John and Santa had a large family which consisted of the following:
George, Anthony, James, Benny, Salvatore,Joseph, John, Fraank, Mary and Pauline. They lived on the outskirts of Pittsburgh.
My father-in-law George, now deceased, came from Pittsburgh when he was 15 years of age and he was born in either 1913 or 1914 on September 11. He married Josephine Flagiello and was married to her for 55 years when he died on July 20, 1998.

It is my understanding that the mother of this family, Santa Crea, died at a very young age and the children went into the orphanage with the exception of George and Joseph. Joseph joined the army and was a career soldier of 35 years. He was in the death march of Bataan. George left Pittsburgh and came to Philadelphia where he met his wife Josephine and became an italian bread baker. Joseph Crea lived in Panama City Florida and just died in 2000. Joseph Crea had adopted twin boys, John and Joseph. Joseph Crea, the son, died last month in August, 2001.

Anthony Crea died at the age of 26 from tuberculosis.

This is really as much as I know. I do not know if their ancestry was from Ireland. I was always told they were of Italian extraction, from the province of Calabria.

I hope I have been of some help to you.

Hope to hear from you, Loretta Crea
