Am searching for the origins of John CRANSTON descended from the Scottish Cranstons who immigrated to Canada - possibly Montreal then migrated south to WI and eventually to Chicago., IL.

1. JOHN1 CRANSTON was born 1842 in Wisconsin, and died in
Chicago, Cook Co., IL. He married CATHERINE.

Notes for JOHN CRANSTON:
The June 1870 Census of Chicago, Cook Co., IL (Ward 3) roll
#545698, p. 309: Lists John Cranston age 28, white, male, teamster, father and
mother "of foreign birth". (Canada or Scotland?) Plus wife Catherine age 28,
housekeeper, father and mother from Ireland, and four children. I found no data about
John Cranston in Wisconsin. The Cranston family lore is that: 1) they were from
Scotland and that the Cranstons came to America via Quebec in Canada
and perhaps went to Torontothen south to Chicago.
Have not yet discovered a direct connection between this John
Cranston and John Cranston, father of John Francis Cranston, though the dates and
place make it extremely likely.

TIMMS whose family was from Montreal, Canada.
