Surnames: Cranston, Gravelstine, Brower, Salt, Salts, Clark
I am searching for my great-great grandfather, Abram Cranston. He was born Abraham Gravelstine between 1848-1851 in Ontario Canada and died in 1916 in St. Laurent, Manitoba, Canada. I am unclear as to when and why he changed his name from Gravelstine to Cranston. In the censuses from 1851,1861,1871 he was listed as Gravelstine. Beginning in 1881, he is a Cranston. Therefore, between the ages of 20-30 years old, he switched surnames and shortened his given name. I do know that his genealogy goes back from him to his father Abraham Henry Meyers Gravelstine whose parents are Abraham Gravelstine and Mary Brower. His mother was Catherine Salt or Salts. Abram was married to Susan Clark.
Any information concerning Abram Cranston would be extremely helpful and appreciated.
