Obituary: Melvin Cranston (1927 - 2002)

He was born Feb. 26, 1927, in the town of Portland, the son of Claude J. and Helen M. Turk Cranston.

A Chautauqua County resident all of his life, he attended Cassadaga Valley Central School. He was a self-employed dairy and grape farmer, owning farms in Arkwright and the town of Pomfret. He also sold used farm equipment. He was a member of the Fredonia Grange and a former member of the Forrest Lodge F&AM 166 of Fredonia.

He is survived by three brothers: Louis S. Cranston of Sinclairville, Kenneth E. Cranston of Brocton and Owen B. Cranston of Stow.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Blodgett who died Feb. 26, 1969.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Stephen Cranston will officiate. Burial will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Brocton or Portland Volunteer Fire Department.
