I am trying to gather information for an academic article on Robert Cranston who was sprung from prison in Fremantle Australia in 1876 and brought to New York on board a whaling ship (the Catalpa). He was born in Co. Tyrone, Ireland in 1840 and joined the British army where he was court-martialled and sentenced to life-imprisonment for recruiting for the Fenian organisation. I would to find out about his life after this and ideally contact some of his descendents.
