What I know for a fact is that my great grand mother Elizabeth Mulgrew was raised by Ann Mulgrew Cranston (Auntie Cranston as my grandmother called her) and Robert Cranston. She lived with them until her marriage. Her name was Elizabeth, The name "Eliza" was either a nickname or, more probable, an abbreviation the census bureau used for Elizabeth. I believe the 1887 date for Elizabeth's wedding, that someone pointed out, to be a correct date.
Also, someone pointed out a Sarah Corr as Elizabeth's mother and this is also correct. I went back in some old paper files on the Mulgrew family and found Sarah Jane Corr as the mother to Elizabeth. McKenna I now believe to be Sarah Corr's mother. Finally, my family's oral tradition state that Robert Cranston was a protestant, but sympathetic to Catholism. He, indeed, might have been a convert. I'm sorry to say that this is just oral history past down over the past 100 years and, of course, it can be
faulty. My aunts and my mother have always contended that the Cranston's had no children and this was one of the reasons that Elizabeth came to live with them. However, again, this is an oral history and errors happen over time. I'd love to here more from anyone claiming ancestry from either my great grandmother Elizabeth Mulgrew or "Eliza" Cranston.
Take care
