Hi, I am looking for any information about Mack Crabtree.
He is my biological Great-Grandfather. He, was born in
1883 in Winchester, Franklin County, Tenn. on Feb. 16th.
I don't mean to ruffle any feathers, but when he was
married to my Great-Grandmother he went to the store one
day and never came back. My Great-Grandmother, was pregnant
with and had already had a little girl. Mack did not know
that G.G. was pregnant with my grandfather
and his twin. We are just wondering any information about him.
thank you very much pepper

Hi Pepper,

I think we share the same great grandfather. My great grandfather was Mack Harrison Crabtree, born Feb 16, 1882, Winchester, Tenn. His parents were Benjamin Franklin Crabtree, and Sarah Hughes. What I know he was married twice. Around the turn of the 20th century, he moved to Walworth, Wisconsin, and married Ida Kinney. He had three sons with her. Sometime after the last son, my Uncle Mack, was born, 1912. He divorced her, and moved to South Dakota. He married Leila Greenman and had a daughter with her.

Around 1930, he moved from the S. Dakota to Huntsville, Al. He stayed with his sister Sunnie, and then moved to Chattooogna, TN. He lived there until 1950. He came back to Walworth for a brief period, and then moved to California. He died July 10, 1959.

I'm assuming that he was married to your great grandmother before he met my grandmother Ida. From what I know, he was a nice person, although I heard he liked the ladies. Anything you tell me won't shock me. I certainly like to hear about this story. Please e-mail me directly.

Hi!

My name is Marian Warren, and my E-mail address is: Mjswspokane@comcast.net

I have just hit a "pocket' of Crabtrees through the message board on Ancestry.com Some of these messages are older, but we have only had Ancestry since about August. I am trying to write to anyone who I feel I can help or who can help me, or anyone in my same line.

Your Mack Harrison Crabtree is the grandson of my Mack Harrison Crabtree. Your Mack's father, Benjamin Franklin Crabtree, was brother to my gr-gr-grandmother Zilliah Ann Crabtree. Zilliah Ann married William S. Stewart in Franklin County, Tenn., in 1850, and they remained there. My maiden name was Stewart. If you are interested in brancining out that far, I have the names of most of their children.

Zilliah Ann and Benjamin Franklin's parents were Mack Harrison Crabtree and Lucy Jane Wilkinson. Lucy was supposed to have been born in Barren County, Kentucky. So far, I have not been able to get marriage info on Mack and Lucy, and I have checked both Franklin Co., Tenn. and Barren Co., Kentucky.

I am just learning from the message board new info. I have not researched this myself and cannot verify it, but on the other hand, I have no reason to suspect it. One of these is a tie in between Franklin County, Tenn. and Barran and Wayne Counties, Kentucky. There is an Isaac Crabtree living in Kentucky (a Revolutionary War Vet) who may be my Mack's grandfather. Also, one person says that Lucy Jane Wilkinson's father was John Batley Wilkinson.

Now, my Mack's father (which would be your Mack's gr-grandfather) was William Crabtree of Crow Creek, Tenn. (near the Alabama border.) There is controversy about his wif(ves.) Some say she was Margaret "Peggy" Potts, and indeed he did leave a widow named Margaret. But, what was her maiden name, and what # wife was she?? There was a lady name Eliza Woodall who did a family tree on William Crabtree, and she always had a stong hunch that he had married a Crownover, but she couldn't prove it. Her daughter Pattty lives in Alabama and carries on her work.

William Crabtree was listed in some places as born in N.C., although new records I'm gettins say his father came out from S.C. Patty says that she found a newspaper clipping (written about one of his sons) saying that he was born in White County, Tenn., so you can check that out further.

Also, I have just found out on the message boards that William's father was supposed to be Isaac Crabtree, and there was at least one in Kentucky.

If I can be of more help to you just let me know. You may have this info alrady? I have the names of William's children, my Mack and Lucy's children, Benjamin Franklin Crabtree's kids, and my Zilliah and William S. Stewart's---if you are interested or need any of these.

Hope to hear from you. Please send me you personal E-mail so we can communicate easier.

Hope to hear from you soon!!

Bye for now. Love--Your cousin, Marian

Lauren,

Infamous Indeed! The Russell mentioned on the census is my grandfather.

Let me give you a little info on how he ended up in Wisconsin. He was originally from Winchester, Tenn. He met a man who was from Walworth, WI, who was sending horses up North. The guy hired him and he moved up to Walworth. He became friends with an Arbin Gates, who had a daughter named Eleanor. Later on they would marry and they had two daughters and a son, my father.

He was quite a character. Arbin Gates worked as an engineer for the railroad. He use to drive the train from Walworth to Chicago until he retired. It makes sense that Mack worked on the railroad.

Later on in the thirties and forties, he started a business with his son Arthur in Chattoogna. They sold siding and roofing for houses in Alabama, Tenn, and Georgia. In the late 1940's, he went back to Wisconsin for a year and then moved to California where he lived near is youngest son Mack. Mack Harrison died in California in 1959.

My e-mail address is rcrabtree02@cs.com. I know alot about Mack's father Benjamin Franklin Crabtree. He was quite a character himself.

Thanks again.

Regards,
Russ

Hello all,
Just doing some ancestry research and stumbled upon this thread about Mack Crabtree. I know it has been a while since anyone has replied on this thread, but I believe that this is the same Mack Crabtree that is our great grandfather. My great grandmother Flora Napier was married (later found out that the marriage was invalid since he was still married to another) to Mack Crabtree in Rapid City, South Dakota. They had my grandfather Melvin Crabtree Allen (he was adopted by Harry Allen after Mack Crabtree abandoned them). It looks like from the previous posted census that they have him married to Flora, but my grandfather Melvin is not listed.
