Roxanna (also listed as Roxy Ann and Annie) was born around 1843 most likely in Pennsylvania.

She had her first child at 16, William Hoop 10 December 1859 so she must have been married either earlier in 1859 or late 1858... She had 6 Hoop children total and only one survived past 20 - Clara b.1872.

My family has no record of what happened to Mr. Hoop - nor his first name. 05 June 1873 she married William Martin of North Carolina or Indiana. He was also previously married with a set of children from that - we know nothing about 1st wife or those children, just that they existed. When he married Roxanna William was 57... Roxy was 30. They had 6 children together, 4 survived to adulthood.

They settled in Indiana - either Marion County, Miami County, or Hancock County but are buried in Shelby county.

The 5 surviving children are shown here - Verna, the man, is my ggreat-grandfather.

Roxanna and William both died in 1890 - William in January, Roxy in September... the last child to die in childhood followed in Febryary 1891. We assume some sort of epidemic. Verna was sent to live with another farm family - James Burns... where he met his future wife, Linnie Mae Coston, the granddaughter of his wife's first marriage.

I know I included a lot here, but we are missing even more. Does this story or these names sound familiar to you? Is Roxanna a sister of someone in your family? Maybe her mysterious first husband? Are you descended from one of his sisters?

If you have any info, please reply! =)
