Hi Russ,

Yes, yes, yes, I know exactly what you are talking about and I guess you had all the variations we had as children.

I do just make under 55, but my brother is quite a bit younger, I have one cousin that I know of who has sons, and they will probably be the only ones in Australia in the next generation (that is unless my brother get his act into gear in a hurry and gets around to having some more children - unfortunately we are going to have to find him a willing participant firstly and he works such long hours that I don't think he has time.

Please email me directly for a further chat - I would love to know about your family connection as obviously somewhere along the line we have common ancestors.

mmckone@vtown.com.au

I was born in Sydney (THE HOME OF THE BEST OLYMPICS EVER) but now live in Melbourne (THE HOME OF THE 1956 OLYMPICS AND THE 2006 COMMONWEALTH GAMES) We even have a round of the Grand Prix run here in March.

Let me know where you are situated, and I really do hope you can talk soon.

I will give you my brother Graham's email and you can contact him too if you wish.

Thanks so much for posting a message.

Regards, Mheganne.

Sorry I didn't get back to you (two years ago). I got busy with life and forgot. I found this site again and had completely forgotten I wrote anything! Anyway, I was born in Salem, Oregon, and now live in Seattle, Washington. My grandfather is Dallas Craber, who lives in Heppner, which is in Eastern Oregon. He has lived there his whole life (90 years). I'll ask my father about when the Crabers moved to Oregon. At any rate, I hope you receive this and mail me back.
Russ

Hi Russ, Many thanks for your response and I can understand the short time lag, as I have been busy over the past few years as well.

My great grandparents, Henry and Sarah Craber came to Australia in 1878 (my g-grandfather's sister Sarah Craber came the following year) My grandfather Henry was born in 1880. We can understand the musings you had on the way the name is pronounced. That must be our lesson of patience in this lifetime, such that for me when my marriage broke up and I decided to take another name I went back on my paternal grandmothers ancestors to pick a surname I felt comfortable with, because sure as hell I wasn't going back to Craber - I had had enough ribbing at school to last for the rest of this lifetime.

If you would like to contact directly please email me on mmckone@vtown.com.au. I have forwarded the link to my brother Graham Craber and you can contact him on E-mail Address:
gcraber@hn.ozemail.com.au

There is only one family of Crabers in Australia and my brother at this stage has a daughter, so the family name will be continued probably only with my male cousins who I believe have sons.

I would be very interested in any family history, especially when your family went to America and where from. I did find a Craber going to America from what would have been Prussia in the late 1600's, but have done no work on that field. I know my family were in England from at least 1700 onwards. My grandfather used to say they were orginally from France, but I don't know whether I would trust that information or not.

I also believe there was a Jewish connection to the family (which came through in looks in my father's sister), but from the time they came to Australia at least the family have been Church of England.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Mheg

Hello to Mheg or Graham Craber....

It would appear that we share great-grandparents.

My grandmother's parents were Sarah and Henry Craber who immigrated to Adelaide late 1880's and later moved to Sydney. In their latter years they lived in Newtown.

My grandmother was Ada Craber her brother Harry Craber.

Nana married Francis Bush and had five children.. 4 boys and a girl (my mother Ada Bush who was a well known dancing teacher in Newtown.). I am very eager to learn more especially my greatgrandmother's (ie Sarah's) maiden name.

I am so looking forward to hearing from you.
