My family came from England to Australia in 1879 arriving in Adelaide and later moving to Sydney. Anyone with our unusual name, please contact me.

Craber, is it a variant of Crabb(e)?

Hi there,
There have been several variant spellings on the basic "Crab", eg Craib, Crabb, Crabbie, Crabbs, Crabbe, Crable so I wondered if you had any idea whether Craber was another of them?
If you are interested we have a website for all these spellings at
freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~crabbe

John

To John Crabbe

Dear John

I don't really know anything about the
Craber name, but anything is possible as it
is such an unusual name and I hated it as a
child. Quite honestly it still does not do
much for me, and when my marriage broke up
could not face reverting to that name so took
a name from a different side of the family,
that of my first convict ancestors in
Australia.

I know my Craber family came to Australia from London in the 1870's, and have traced the family back in London for some generations before that.

I think that it was an original german name
but cannot be sure.

However I am always open to suggestion . . .

Please contact me on my email

Thanks for your message.

Hi, fellow Craber. The good thing about this name is that if someone calls on the phone and asks for Mr. or Mrs. Crabber, you know they're about to ask if you want to switch phone companies, and hang up. But when they're mispronouncing your name at fancy restaurants, that's different. My father actually wanted to legally return the spelling to the original German spelling of Krobar or Kroebar. I think simply changing the C to K would probably make the name much more palatable. Where does most of your family reside? My brother and I have a couple of third cousins with the same last name, and our grandfather had a couple brothers and a sister. That's makes 4 Crabers I know under the age of 55. It's a pretty small club, the Young Crabers, that is. Good luck with your other name!

Hi there... I am also researching my family history and I think we may have a match..... My grandmother's name was Ada Craber and she was born in Adelaide (late 1880's).

Her parents (Henry and Sarah) emigrated from England to Adelaide shortly before she was born and later moved to Sydney when she was young. Her brother's name was Harry Craber and his son's name was also Harry Craber (residing in St George area and had a real estate business there for years)... I have learned quite a lot about Henry but very little about Sarah. I am very eager to learn more about her. Trust you can help me.

Hello
My name is Tracey Lincoln age 49 (nee Craber). I stumbled across this site researching my family tree. My father is John Norman Craber brother to Harry Craber. I grew up in Sydney. I have 2 brothers Scott and Carl Craber. I have wanted to contact members of my family for a long time but dont know where to begin. I dont have contact with my father John by choice and he doesnt talk to his brother Harry and to the best of my knowledge they have not spoken for a number of years. John and Harry have sisters (now deceased) Truda and Dorothy and their fathers name is Henry. I would love to hear from any member of the family (except my father John that is). My brother phoned our uncle Harry a number of years ago but unfortunately was told he wanted nothing to do with us, quite a shame really as our growing years were filled with our fathers violence and my brothers and I just wanted to find our family. I too hated using my surname as a young person. Hope to hear from you.
Regards
Tracey

Hi cousin Tracey,
So nice to see your notice. We are first cousins, I am the eldest daughter of Harry. I remember being at your parent's wedding and have a photo, I must have been about 5 at the time, but my parents were such snobs that I was not allowed to play with my other cousins, and the girls were about the same age as me. I also hated the Craber name and changed my name back to my convict ancestors on my grandmother's side (of course she is your grandmother too!!!!!!! (McKone, but have subsequently remarried. Like you I had a childhood of violence, can completely understand what you have said. My parents were divorced and my mother has passed over, and I have absolutely no contact with my father or siblings. Please contact me soon, my email address is
mlumsden@mcmedia.com.au. What a great Christmas pressie.
Best wishes, Mheganne.
