Mary, I am excited to make contact with another of Joshua's descendants - Robert F. Crabbs and Helen Arvilla Johnson were my great-great-grandparents - my great grandmother was their daughter, Julia Grace Crabbs, who married Charles Fast. Which of Robert and Helen Arvilla's children would be your great-great-grandparent? Re. Joshua - there are those who state that another Joshua Jacob Crabbs was our Joshua's father, but there is no proof of that offered that I have found and that Joshua Crabbs had moved to Indiana and was a boatman of some sort, while ours remained in the Md. Va. area and followed the apparent family trade of a miller. I agree that Frederick, b. 1777, was most likely Joshua's grandfather. There is a Benjamin Crabbs listed on the 1830 US census, who has a male child under the age of 5 - and Joshua would have been 3 yrs. at that time. Also, there was a Benjamin F. Crabbs living in the Alexandria Va. household with Joshua's family, who was 1 yr. older and could have been either Joshua's brother or cousin. The Emily Crabbs also living there in 1860 I believe was the Ammony Troxel who married a Benjamin Crabbs in Dec 1827. She likely is not Joshua's mother - maybe his step-mother, or maybe an aunt? I also have much to share on our Crabbs line descended from Robert - and his siblings and his mother, Thirza, but think space will run out here. I would like to give a call - maybe next week or the following week-end - what time zone are you in? I am in Oregon, so Pacific time. I do need to re-visit the info I have as I have been neglecting the research for this last year.
