I am a descendant of Robert Crabb of Washington County, GA. According to information I received from the Washington Co. Genealogical Committee; Robert, Asa, Benjamin and Burton were all living in Washington Co. in 1816. By the 1820 census Robert and his family were the only Crabbs still living in the county. I feel that since Asa and 2 of his known sons were there in 1816 then Robert must have also been a son.

Betty, Do you know from what information Washington County got the residency of Robert, Asa, Burton, and Benjamin in 1816? Was it from a tax list, militia list, and/or etc?
|
I assume it was all from a tax list. She told me where Robert's land was located and the amount of tax he paid. She just listed the other names with no details except they were no longer in Washington Co. by 1820.

Howdy..... A word of caution here.... if Washington County TAX lists are the source of this information it does NOT mean that any of these men were living in Washington County at that time. If a person owned property in any county, they were required to pay taxes on it just as we do today.
I have never tried to find out where THIS land (his 100 acre Headright) was but it could be the Washington County land since this county was created in 1784 from land ceded by the Creek indians: SOURCE Richmond Co, Ga Land Court, 18 Sep 1784 - 06 Aug 1787, pg 299 "Asa Crabb - 100 acres - HeadRight - of wife and child - on Greenbrier Creek "
I know that Grandpa Asa's "lottery land" was in Jasper County, Uncle Benjamin's was in Lee County and my Grandpa Burton did not win any lottery land. I know nothing about this Robert Crabb.
By the way, Uncle Benjamin his sons James B and William John are buried under C-r-a-b-b-e in McDonough Memorial Cemetery, McDonough, Henry Co GA. His wife, Rachel [Wade], their son Benjamin Jr, and some grandchildren are also buried under C-r-a-b-b-e in the Holley Cemetery, Camp Hill, Tallapoosa Co, AL
Before we assign this Robert as a son of Asa we need to learn much more about him as he coud have been a nephew, a cousin, or less likely a grandchild. Robert was just NOT a name that appeared in our Crabb families in the first 2-3 generations in Georgia BUT Ryland CRABB born 1817 was married and living in Washington County by 1850 - I have never really tried to identify his parents but it seems possible he was a son of this Robert ??
We NEED a copy of this Tax List to see who else was on it and ALL other identifiable information it may have had.

Has anyone found out any further information on this Robert Crabb?

It doesn't appear so but I did find out that Asberry T. Crabb is Asberry Tucker Crabb. It was contained in his widow's pension file. William and Nancy Tucker lived in the area in 1820, 1830, and 1840 so I suspect that Asberry T. Crabb's mother Lydia was Lydia Tucker. William and Nancy Tucker had a girl of the right age living in the household in 1830 (10-15). None of the other Tuckers had a girl of the right age in those years.

Re: Robert Crabb of GA--another note
Samuel Crab received a land grant in Washington County on 11 Mar 1784 for 287 1/2 acres of land. Robert Crab was born about 5 years later. I suspect that Samuel was the father of Robert. So, I think that we will have to track down records of Samuel Crabb to resolve the issue.
