Re: CRABB in Poole, and Bridport, Dorset, UK
I should add to my original message, that Richard's father and mother are Andrew and Mary A Crabb, born about 1823, Bridport, Dorset. They are in the hemp and twine trade, and moved to live and work in Poole; Richard has brothers and sisters. Info from 1871 census.

Re: CRABB in Poole, and Bridport, Dorset, UK
Thanks - are they same family? Surely connected? I have Andrew 1823 Bridport, married to Mary A., same sort of birthdate, Bridport. (All dates est. from census). One of their children is Richard born Poole 1858 - my link is he marries one of my tree, Elizabeth Ann Hancock (really Hoare). Have a great big list of children for them. If you wish to have any of the info for this branch, let me know, and I'll detail it. Best wishes Laura

Re: CRABB in Poole, and Bridport, Dorset, UK
Hi Laura,
I'm trying to research a John Thomas HANCOCK / HOARE , born around 1837 in Frome, Somerset according to 2 censuses.
Could he be connected to your Elizabeth Ann??
With thanks for any help

Re: CRABB in Poole, and Bridport, Dorset, UK
Seems like one of those coincidences, though I suppose both were common names in the south west so maybe not so unlikely. Elizabeth Ann is born 1859, Bridport, to mother Ann Hoare born 1829, Beaminster. Ann marries Robert Hancock born 1837, Poole (who might or might not have been Elizabeth Ann's father) and the child then appears as Hancock on census, reasonably enough. Your John Thomas is born the same year as her father and not in Poole, Dorset, so can't see how they can be connected. However, if you find anything, let me know. My tree is here and you might find the Hoares list useful if just for elimination during your research. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&...

Re: CRABB in Poole, and Bridport, Dorset, UK
Many thanks -- does look like they are not connected.
My John Thomas HANCOCK/HOARE was a theatrical comedian in Merthyr Tydfil!

Re: CRABB in Poole, and Bridport, Dorset, UK
I have a great, great, grandfather, George Crabb, who was a shoemaker in Charmouth,Dorset UK until he died about 1895. In the censuses it states he was born in Uplyme, Devon. He married his first wife Charlotte Hoare around 1835. Both were born in 1816. After Charlotte's death in 1859 he married Elizabeth from Dalwood, Devon. George was named in William Crabb's will 1891. William Crabb was a retired Licensed Victuallar dieing in 1891 in Harcombe Bottom. In 1881 George's mother Rachel Newberry (b 1794) was living with him in Charmouth. George's Grandson William Charles Pascoe Crabb (my Grandfather) was born in 1879 in Stoke Damiel, Devonport, Devon, His mother Maria Louisia, born Sligo 1858, was named in the 1881 census. Her father William H Collins was staying with the family in 1881 and 1891. Any crossing over connections with your research? Please email me with any data: chrisppbrant@gmail.com
