Jan, the Mary Crab that married John Gallop is not the daughter of John Crabb and Joane Wollesdon. Actually John Gallop's wife is not Mary Crabb, Crabb is not her surname.

Mary Crab that married John Gallop is actually Christobella Mary Crab Burchett, christened 1594 in Mosterton, Dorset, Engand and died in Boston, Massachusetts. Mary Crab and John Gallop were married on 19 Jan 1617 in St. Mary's Church, Mosterton, Dorset, England.

As you can see Crabb is not really her surname. Mary's surname is Burchett. I have John Gallop and Christobella Mary Crab Burchett's children if you need it. I also have John Gallop's family. The reason I have this is because I run into this all of the time.

Christobella Mary Crab Burchett is the daughter of Johann Edmund Bychet or Burchett born 1557 in Dorset County, England and was christened 13 Aug 1557 in Hunsdon, Hertford, England and married Rachel Emma Nicholis or Nicolas christened 27 Aug 1570 Saint Michaels, Bishops Stortford, Hertford, England. Johann and Rachel were married on 7 Aug 1588 in West Milton, Dorset, England.

Sources: Parish Registers and Bishop's Transcripts for Dorset County, England christening and marriage.

Christobella Mary Crab Burchett gets her Crab name from her father's parents or her Grandparents, John Burchett chr 1565 of Essex County, England and Mary Crabb chr 14 Sep 1565 of Great Canfield, Essex, England. Mary Crabb who married John Burchett is the daughter of John Crab of Essex County, England.

The Mary Crab that married John Gallop is not related in any way to John Crabb and Joane Wollesdon.

You will note the difference in the birth/christening years between your Dorset County Christobella Mary Crab Burchett and our Cornwall County Mary Crabb.

John Crabb and Joane Wollesdon are Cornwall County,England Crabb's. I know because this is my family. I did research in the Parish Registers and Bishop's Transcripts of christening, marriage and burial records in Cornwall County, England. And, my research has been appoved by Dr. Clive Cheeseman of the College of Arms in London, England.

Dr. Clive Cheeseman has said that the confusion with these two girls, Christobella Mary Crab Burchett and our Mary Crabb started because the 1620 John Crabb of Castlewich, Cornwall County, England Visitation was later scribed wrong from the Original, [which the College of Arms has in their possession], the Original having our Mary Crabb who actually married Peter Palke and married nobody else.

There is no way they could be the same person when you have the christening, marriage and burial information from both Cornwall and Dorset Counties, England:

Christobella chr. 1594 and our Mary Crabb chr. 16 Oct 1607.
Christobella married 19 Jan 1617 and our Mary Crabb married 11 June 1626.

My Cornwall Crabb family is:

Father: John Crabb christened 5 Jul 1587 Callington, Cornwall, England and was buried 7 Aug 1642 Bodin, Cornwall, England
Mother: Joane Wollesdon christened 1588 Callington, Cornwall, England and was buried 11 Feb 1651/1652 Callington, Cornwall, England.
Marriage: John Crabb and Joanne Wollesdon were married 21 Nov 1606 in Callington, Cornwall, England.
Children of John Crabb and Joanne Wollesdon were:
1. Mary Crabb christened 16 Oct 1607 Callington, Cornwall, England and was buried in 1646 in Callington, Cornwall, England. Mary Crabb on 11 Jun 1626 in Callington, Cornwall, England, married Peter Palke in born1608 in Ipplepen, Cornwall, England and was buried in 1646 in Callington, Cornwall, England. Mary Crabb and Peter Palke's son Michael Palke was christened in 1630 in Callington, Cornwall, England.
2. John Crabb christened 20 January 1610/1611 Callington, Cornwall, England and died in July 1642 at the Seige of Bristol.
3. Anne Crabb chr 12 Aug 1612 Callington, Cornwall, England and died in Callington, Cornwall, England.

I hope this helps and that I hear from you. If you would like more information, you can email me at: marshaberry1@lycos.com.
