COZENS family

Hallo everybody,

I'm researching a branch of the COZENS family which seem to have colonised Walthamstow, East London, for more than 150 years. I've a confirmed direct line to John COZENS, my great great grandfather,(1804 - 1894), born Walthamstow, married to Jane (maiden name uncertain) who had a son, George, born 1843. I would like to find his parents names and possibly further.

If anyone can help,I'd be very gratefull.

Good evening Gerry,

I'm very pleased to hear from you. My grandfather was Ernest Frederick COZENS b. 1885, George John's younger brother.

I have a great deal of information on the Cozens family going back several generations into the 1700's, and also concerning recent generations.

I had nothing on Cyril Frank except for his year of birth, so your input would be very welcome, as it will help to fill in a line that's empty !

I suggest that we establish contact directly to exchange information, as it would be too fastidious going through this site all the time. My e-mail address is:

nicolaspattinson@yahoo.fr

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Nick

Good morning Gerry,

I wondered if you received my reply on 22nd October ?

I am very much looking forward to hearing from you as your father was, in fact, my mother's cousin and we must therefore be second cousins.

As I said in my first post, I have a great deal of information on the family and would be happy to share it with you.

Best wishes,

Nick Pattinson

I am a Cozens and my grandfather is George His father was Alfred and Alfred had a brother but I don't know his name. Just some old funny family stories told by Alfred. My grandfather George's mother was Sarah Tingham and she was half cherokee and I don't think this is the same branch. I understand that cozens is sort of like the name smith - It means swindler so the Cozens were very Keen business people who knew how not to be hung. My Grandfather was quite a story teller himself but was also a bronco buster, drove a 40 mule train and worked as a logger.

Good evening,

Thanks for your message about the Cozens family. I'm afraid it doesn't look to me as if we're talking about the same family. My lot were from London, UK and before that from the county of Hertfordshire.

As far as I know none of them emigrated to the States. However, if you had some dates to give me it would help a check, but Sarah Tingham doesn't ring a bell either.

Sorry if I can't help on the face of it. If you would like any further information let me know.

Regards,

Nick

I am also related to the Cozens family. My mother was
Gwendoline Cozens and her father was Gilbert Cozens.
My Great-Uncle was John Cozens who was a musician living in Bristol. The only thing I have managed to find out is the family were musicians. I know my grandad died at the age of 33.

Good morning Marilyn,

Thanks for your message. Unfortunately I don't feel I'm going to be able to help you much. There are quite a few COZENS families around, and mine is mainly centered in London. There are other COZENS families in the west country (Somerset for example)and in Hampshire.

I don't have a Gwendoline or a Gilbert in my tree, and the family were not musicians I'm afraid.

If you don't already know it, I would recommend you try using a site called RootsChat.com, which has the merit of being entirely free, and has many members only too happy to help out. I have made enormous progress since joining them.

Good luck with your hunt.

Nick

Good evening Terry,

Thanks for your message.

There were quite a few of my COZENS family who were born, lived in, were married and died in Walthamstow. The chances are that there may be a link somewhere, but to help me help you I need a little more info if possible.

However, I don't have a recollection of a Leonard and 7 brothers. Do you by any chance have the slightest bit of extra information to go on, such as:

Dates of birth, even approximate ?
Names of your grandparents ?
Your mother's maiden name ?
Names of any of the brothers ?

Any of this might give me a clue as to whether there could be a link, and if so, where !

Best wishes,

Nick
