Surnames: Cozart Cozert Casart Harris Cain Jenkins Halford
Orpha Emaline aka Emma/Emily Cozart/Cozert was my gg grandmother. As far as I know, the family has not been able to trace her family lineage before her marriage and death in Saline Co, IL.

I am hoping info in this query will strike a note with another Cozart researcher which may provide a new clue in finding her ancestors.

Emaline m. John Willis Harris 8 Dec 1867, Saline Co, IL. After his death, she married Geo W Cain 4 Dec 1898, Saline.

Orpha Emaline d. 18 Oct 1925, Harrisburg, Saline,IL; Her death cert. completed by her son Charles states:
Emaline b. 23 Apr 1851 in Cincinnati, OH;
Father: William Cozart b. IL;
Mother: Mary Jane Clark b. Columbus, OH

However, this info may not all be accurate. A photo copy of the marriage registration for her 2nd marr to Geo W Cain lists her father's name as John Cozart instead of William. In addition, it may not make sense for her father to be born in IL and for Emaline to be born in OH?

According to family history, Emaline maintained that she was not related to other Cozart's in the Harrisburg area. This would include James Cozart who m. Mary Cain. Although, I would not completely rule this out.

Through elimination, I have tried to look at every possible 1850/60 census record that might fit. I have found one potential record in the Cincinnati area:

1850 Symmes, Hamilton, OH
William Casart b. 1805 PA (age 45)
Jane b. 1827 OH (age 23)
John W b. 1846 OH (age 4) (listed after: Wm,W.A.F.G)
Rosella b.1850 OH
Sarah b.1792 OH (58)
Emeline b. 1848 OH (2)
Wm Halford b. 1826 Maryland (cooper - also living w/)

If anyone can can help me place this family to either eliminate or find them later and associate them - that would be great.

The other thought I considered would be that perhaps Emaline was somehow connected with the Cozart's in White co, IL. Is it possible that she was the orphaned daughter, Emily, of Eleazer and Leticia Jenkins Cozart who then went to live with grandfather Charles Jenkins? I have not been able to determine what happened to this Emily Cozart in White Co, IL after the 1860 census.

Any ideas as to which family line or area of the country my gg grandmother Orpha Emaline Cozart belongs would be much appreciated.

Just saw your inquiry of Feb 3. I, too, am searching for information on the background of Emaline Cozart. She was the great grandmother of my wife, Barbara Sue Fife. Everything that I have found indicates that William Cozart was born in Illinois, but nowhere is there any suggestion as to why he was in Ohio for his marriage and remained there for the birth of his daughter before returning to Illinois. I have been unable to find any record of the marriage in Ohio, either.

Afraid I cannot offer any solutions at this point, but I did want you to know that I, too, am searching and will certainly pass along anything that I turn up. I would appreciate it very much if you would do the same. Thanks

Thank you for your reply. I will keep you in mind if I find out anything and I appreciate your offer to return the favor as you continue your research as well. This has been an unsolved mystery in our family for at least 40 years.
