Joseph was reportedly born 1778 in MD. He was found on 1810 census in Christian County, KY with wife Elizabeth Hargis and severalchildren. He next turns up in Gallatin County, IL where Elizabeth dies and Joseph takes on a new wife, Mary Mussett and son, Wm from previous marriage, From there, the family moves to Waterford , Fulton Co, IL where they both live til death. In particular, I am looking for info regarding this man's birth parents and sibs. One brother might be William Cozad/Cozart who was also in Christian County KY in 1810. He married Mary (Polly) Ruff (Roof) there in 1802. They then moved to Hardin County, KY where Will died a few years later. All responses are most welcome and appreciated.

Re: William M. Cazadd, b. 1816, KY>Wayne Co., IL
Faith, I have been researching my husband's Cazadd family in Wayne and Clay Counties, IL and at this point have reason to think that his WILLIAM M. CAZADD, b. 1816 in KY is your "William Cazadd" b. 1816 in Christian Co., KY, son of Joseph Cozart and Elizabeth Hargis. I have not yet located William in 1850, but first have him in 1860, Wayne Co., IL, Long Prairie, "WM CAZADD,"age 42, b. KY, a "cabinet maker," and married to "MARTHA J.," 32, b. IL. With them are "GEORGE W.," 15; "MARGARET A.," 13 & "JOSEPH N., 6. They disappear again in 1870, but resurface in 1880 again or still in Wayne Co., IL. Now with only 16 yr. old "ELLA S." at home. Here, William states that his father was b. in "France" (unlikely) and his mother in "Virginia." He's last sighted in 1881 where he's listed as an "Undertaker & Cabinet Maker" in the Wayne Co. Business Directory. I do have William M. and Martha J. descendants on down through the 1930 Census and beyond, in some cases. They all, so far, descend from his son, George W. Cazadd, b. 1845 through his two wives, "Martha J. Unknown" and Georgia Ann Jackson. Some are found in Clay Co. as late as 1920. Please write if you think that this is a plausible connection. Re: William M. Cazadd, b. 1816, KY>Wayne Co., IL
Absolutely sounds like a strong connection to me. I too think it is the same Wm Cazadd. Do you know what the middle initial M stands for? This was the only child of Joseph's fsamily whom he named Cazadd. Mostly Joe went as Cozadd but was originally listed as a Cozart. Several other children listed as Cozart. Not sure if phonetically they HEARD Cazadd instead of Cozadd as Joseph callled himself. Good to hear from you, Cuz Faith

Re: William M. Cazadd, b. 1816, KY>Wayne Co., IL
Faith, Thanks for responding. I haven't looked at my Cazadd/Cozadd file for over a year now but just checked my database and I do not have a middle name for the initial "M." My husband descends from William M.1816, Christian Co., KY>George W. (Wheeler)1845, Wayne Co., IL>William J. (Julius) 1877, IL>Leora Frances Cazadd (1903, Monroe Co., AR)>Franklin Lawrence Cook (1945, Sacramento Co., CA). Barbara Hays Cook, Sacramento, CA
