You are right about this being a different Asa G. Beals...that was confusing! I saw his grave marker and the birth date is Aug. 3 1828, which is not a match and too many things don't add up. I'm still trying to figure out Thomas Coleman...I haven't found an 1860 census yet, which might help.

I was about to put a death date from Montana for you to see, but you found it already. From the date of it the guy probably died in the Spanish Flu epidemic. Yeah, some stuff matches and could make sense, but then at closer look doesn't.

I haven't found Thomas in the 1860 census either and I've looked and looked over the years. I have him getting married to Rebecca Ross in Warren Co, Indian in 1867. So, either he was moving and not recorded or just haven't found him yet. Wish we could cause then we'd be able to see if Charlotte was still around then and if they had any other children. Maybe search counties in a travel path from Ross Co, Ohio to Warren Co, Indiana. Guess it's map time :)

Hey, was going through some papers of past research on the Beales/Colemans and found a tree from ancestry that just jumped out at me. Another of James and Mary's kids that just now makes sense. The Shepherd Keill Lybarger Cozad Our Family by Carol Ferguson. Lists Mary Polly Beals marrying William Cozad. Bingo! William Cozad and Polly Beals Cozad said they knew Mary Braley Beals in 1841 in Ohio in James's pension file. William and Mary got married in Jackson Co, OH, right next to Ross Co, in 1841. Am trying to track down more info. One of William and Mary's kids was Isaac Asa Gideon Cozad. He died after 1930 in Shawnee Co, Ks. Darn it, too bad I don't work for Kansas vital stats, it's only a few hours away, HA. Anyway, if could find obit or something maybe more info. Benton Co, Ind 1860 census says Mary was born in NY about 1815-1817. Fits with stuff from the pension. William married a first time in Medina Co, OH (up northeast portion by Lake Erie) to a Martha Burchard, so maybe route from NY down lake Erie into interior of OH is how James and Mary Beals got down there.

I made up a separate tree for Beales, Beals, Bells, Coleman, Ross, Cozad. That way it's easier to work with a small tree. Can add to it and then and continue to get more info. Just from a few papers I had another look at I found two ladies that just have to be James and Mary Beales kids. Mary "Polly" Ann Beales and Sophia Mariah Beales. Sophia married Daniel W. Roberts, parents of William H. Roberts who married Mila Coleman, daughter of Thomas and Charlotte Coleman. And I already told you about Mary "Polly" and William Cozad.

Hi!

I took a look at the William Cozad that married Mary Polly Beales and I found a family tree that had a picture of a headstone that seems to match. I attached it to my tree. I remember when I first this research that this line gets very confusing with the names being used over and over. I'm going to see what I can find on the new ladies that do appear to be James and Mary Beales girls. I ran across a major break in one of my other lines (father's side) yesterday so that has been a bit distracting but also exciting. :)

I'll check that out. I'm trying to get things added in to the new tree. I'm thinking on ordering the Civil War pension file for James K. Coleman, son of Thomas and Charlotte, and see what it says. It should have death info and maybe death certificate so might have parent info. He fought in company A, 128th Indiana Infantry, which was the same unit and company that James N. Beales, son of James and Mary fought for. Could get his as well. Also want to see if I can get death records for the rest of Thomas and Charlotte's children and see if I'm lucky with info on parents. Thomas's daughter with Rebecca Ross, Lydia, died 1916, I found on the record from LDS site. It's either Illinois or Indiana and could write vital records for the state and see what it says. Trying to see what I can find on different people in order to find info on parents.
