Hi, I want all Coyers to be aware of the book, "The Coyer Clan and the Carrier Connection" by John Edwards Armstrong. He traces the Carrier back to France in 1644, their move to outside Quebec abt. 1655, their move to upstate NY around 1800, the subsequent name change in the early 1800s and the immigration of three sons Louis, Nelson and Edward to Dodge County, WI abt. 1855. I would be happy to do lookups for anyone who thinks they may be connected to this line.

I should add that "The Coyer Clan and the Carrier Connection" book by John Edward Armstrong traces the lines of five Coyer brothers who migrated from Lawrence County, NY, to Dodge County, WI, in 1855. He traces the lines up to about 1980.

Louis Carrier/Coyer and Margaret Deschene, the parents of the 5 brothers, was the generation that immigrated from Canada to upstate NY. They had 16 children, five of whom migrated to Wisconsin -- the rest of the children's lines it would be great make a connection to. The children were:
1. Louis, b. Feb 26 1828
2. Nelson, b. Mar 15 1831
3. Margaret, b. 1832
4. Louisa, b. 1833
5. Edward, b. Nov 8 1835
6. Johanna, b. Mar 16 1836
7. Julia Ann, b. Jan 3 1838
8. Adee Lucinda, B. Sep 15 1839
9. Millie, b. Mar 7 1842
10. Joseph, B. 1843
11. John, b. Dec 9 1846
12. Levi, b. 1848
13.
14.
15.
16. Henry, b. Oct 15 1851

Gayle,

I also have the book, but have been unable to contact the author in the last year.
This is my connection - Zerdo is my grandfather. Who do you descend from?

Louis Carrier (1808-1886)
Nelson Coyer (1831-1915)
Seymour Coyer (1852-1927)
Olive Ester Coyer (1882-1909)
Zerdo James Benson (1905-1968)

Hi Rick, it was nice to see your post. My line is Louis (b. 1828, Nelson's brother), Frank Louis (b. 1869) Lester Chester(b. 1896, my grandfather).

I looked up Seymour in the Coyer book and didn't see Olive. Is she one of the unnamed children of Seymour and Mattie Coyer?

I corresponded with John Edward Armstrong about 2 years ago because I wanted to get copies of his original research. He said no one had ever asked him for that information since the book was published so during a move he threw everything away!

Do you have any information in addition to the Coyer book about the 16 children of Louis Coyer and Margaret Deschene and where they lived -- Armstrong really only traces the 5 brothers who immigrated to Wisconsin.

Olive Ester was the fourth child of Elizabeth Woolworth (1857-1883) and Seymour Coyer (m 1877) Elizabeth died before Olive was one. So Mattie was his second wife and the first family was never entered into the book.

I don't have more information on the other siblings. I was mainly working on my way backwards.

Hi Becca, sorry, my Coyer line did not immirgrate to the U.S. from Canada until about 1805 and the name was Carrier until about 1830-1850 or so. Five of the brothers moved to Wisconsin in the 1850s but none moved to PA.
