Hi, I am Michelle Coyer-Narum of MN. I am a descendant of Jake Coyer(father), Amil Coyer(grandfather)Levi Coyer(great, great uncle)
Do any of these names match with any names in your tree? I've never heard the Coyer name outside of my own family. Any younger Coyers on your side (like in thier 60's or 70's)? Maybe we could keep in contact and see if we're related?!! The original Coyer spelling was "Coyour" until my grandfather shorened it to simplify it. Does this help? Hoping to hear from you and about your search. Michelle.

Michelle there are a ton of Coyers in Michigan. My grandfather, Damion Coyer had 18 children in Bay City, Michigan. We know about the change in spelling so our families must have lost touch only a few generations ago! It would be interesting to link up the trees. How far back have you been able to track Coyers? I'm trying to trace my branch of the coyer family. The information I have is: that my Grandfather, Daniel Earl Coyer died in Knox, In. in 1945. He had a brother named Gus. I heard this branch of the Coyer family was from Canada. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, DC

I wasn't aware of any spelling change in the Coyer name, and my grandfather died in 1945. How far back did this change take place? DC

Hi Nicole,
Could you tell me who Damion's Father was. I have been in contact with several other Coyers in the Bay City, Pinconning area and we are trying to connect all the family loose ends. The previous message on the Family History.com message board may be right about the name change in her family. But that is not how it happened in the Michigan Coyers. The original family name is (dit) Carriere. I and others have the family back to abt. 1590. The name changed when James Edward Carriere and his brother Louis and their families moved from Monroe County to Pinconning in abt. 1860 to settle the backwoods and begin farming. Louis' wife could not bear the harsh life of a one room cabin in the middle of nowhere. She begged him to return to Monroe and they did. James and his family hung in there and the family farm was on Pinconning road. James' sons mostly stayed in the area. But when James died, his wife moved to Battle Creek where some of their children had moved. It appears that at some time, probably when a census taker came, the name Carriere, which would be pronounced...Care-YEA was misspelled. Cor yea...Co-yer. And after that it was spelled Courier, yet many of the family pronounce Courier like Coyer. So, we have our line back to abt 1590. Let me know where Damion fits in and we can conect our families, too. Thanks, DEB

Thanks for that great info, Deb! I think my Grandfather's father's name was Albert Coyer and his mother's name was Laura Burton (I think). Let me know if this helps.

Hi Nicole,
Yes! We have Albert! Do you have a cousin Patty? She and I and her sister-in-law are working on where Albert fits into the Tree. Can you find out from your relatives who Albert's parents were? Please email me at ldrmjc@home.com

Deb,
That would be wonderful if it could all join up. I'll try to get that info with the names of Albert's parents.
I probably have a cousin Patty, there are so many of us. What are her parent's names?
You can email me at nbiscuit@prodigy.net if you need to.
Thank! Nicole
