Hi,
I came across your posting and saw your interest in the Coye family name. The Coye family from Derryhoyle is actually related to me but our names are now spelt slightly differently. My name is Ronan Coy and I am from Kilchreest just a few miles from Derryhoyle. My Father used to spell his name Coye but we have all been christened with Coy (although my birth certificate says Coye). The name seems to have changed randomly during the past.

Their is a family of Coye's in Derryhoyle currently and Joe Coye is the father. Their are two sons Ciaran and Colga that i know off. My Father Michael Coy(e) is 4th cousin to Joe Coye. That makes me 5th cousin to Ciaran and Colga. When we were children we did visit each others houses on a number of occasions and their was a bond between the families as the name is quite rare. There was a captain Pat Coye from Derryhoyle who was a volunteer during the Civil war. He died in 1923 and was buried in Kilchreest cemetry. See the link http://homepage.eircom.net/~clostoken/coye.html

My father probably has more information on the exact realtionship between the families if you are interested.

Regards
Ronan Coy(e)

Hi Ciaran,

We met many years ago both in Derryhoyle and in Kilchreest. I think you might know my brother Shane a bit better than me. He went to UCG while you were there. I was down to see your parents a few months back with my Dad Mike. We met Anthony and some of the Fahys. I'm currently doing a lot of family research and coming across a lot of interesting facts. I hadn't realised that you were interested in the Family tree although a name like Coy always generates interest. Let me know if you want to know more about what I have found out so far.

Regards
Ronan

Hello all... RONAN And I have compared notes before. I am Ed McCoy... From Philadelphia,Pa. Area... Ronan and I are Dna matches 10 generation ago Late 1600's - early 1700's.. I do not remember . the spelling as Coye.. I am sure ronan told me so.. So I can do some more searches for my g-g-grandfather John McCoy born Ireland 1839. The trouble I have is when Immigrants Arrived. In the USA, the spelling of last name is varied quite a bit. During our civil war, men who fought for our north changed their name spelling ,from southern relatives. I guess the same might of occurred in Ireland also.
Please keep me in the loop for new information.. I have been searching backwards from Ronans tree via John Coy and Hanna Gready.. If you look at my open tree please do not take that as a fact. It is not yet. I am sure it will one day.

Hi! My 2nd great-grandfather was born in Ardrahan, Galway, Ireland around 1822. His name was Patrick Coy and he married Mary Monahan according to my records. They came to the United States in 1846, first residing in Middletown, Connecticut and finally settling in Chicago, Illinois where they both died. (This is where my great grandfather, grandfather, grandmother and mother were then born.) Have you done any research on this family line? Would it be possible to locate his parents? I would certainly like to document his family roots in Ardrahan! Thanks in advance for your help! Kim
