BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA - Allen “Jay” Coy, formerly of New Springfield, Ohio, died In a farm accident on a quad Oct. 18, 2014, near his home in British Columbia, Canada, where he has resided since 1980.
He was born Oct. 3, 1943, a son of Reuben and Ida (Snyder) Coy.
He graduated from Springfield Local High School in 1961.
He attended Youngstown State University and served in Puerto Rico with the Brethren Volunteer Service for two years.
He got married to Joyce Winters on Aug. 17, 1969. He and two of his sons lived and worked at Headwaters Ranch.
He loved the outdoors and hunting. He taught hunting classes to the youth and was a paramedic. He leaves his wife, three sons and two daughters, Mark Coy of Alaska, Daniel (Susan) Coy, Ethan (Jenny) Coy of British Columbia, Joyann (Nakia) Mast of Saskatchewan, Canada, and Doreen (Jasen) Kuipers of Ontario, Canada.
He also leaves 16 grandchildren. He is survived by three brothers, James (Karen) Coy of New Springfield, Duane (Eloise) Coy and Philip (Laurie) Coy of Columbiana, and a brother-in-law, Otis Winters. He is also survived by three sisters, Eloise (Stanley) Simmons of Columbiana, Diane Coy of New Middletown and Betty (William) Kimble of Louisville, and two sisters-in-law, Janice Coy of Waynesville and Barbara Huffman of Bridgewater, Va.
Jay also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Coy, and one sister, Sandra Coy.
Memorial services were held at the Christian Ministries Church at Headwaters Ranch in British Columbia on Sunday, Oct. 26, and also at the Bethel Church of the Brethren in New Middletown, Ohio where Jay was a member in his youth.
