I was born 1-3-46 in Brooklyn NY. Was raised by the St. John's Catholic home for boys. My mother was Lee O'creene. I do not know if my father married my mother but do know that he visited when I was a child. Contact was lost because of my mother. He may have been in Merchant Marine. Have no idea about the Coxon background. Anyone who would can enlighten this family, would be greatly appreciative.

Sorry, we are not familiar with the Coxon family except we have been in contact with a few Coxon families. So far we do not know who the relatives would be and where from. As stated in my original posting, my father visited in the early young years and contact had been lost because of my mother. My birth certificate from Brooklyn, NY says the father and mother were from Indiana but I know that this is not true. My father, I was told was a Merchant Marine, but that is about all. Sorry, and good luck.

All Coxon Families. I have been doing some LCoxon research. Our branch of Coxon, which is also spelt Coxen, Coxson, Coxsen, originated in lower Derbyshire county in Englsand. They lived in Ashmunton, Ashburne, Shirley, Brailfords, Sutton-on-the-Hill, Derby, etc. The name is also found in Nottinghamshire. There are still enumous families by that name. I still have discover how all are related. My grandfather-in-law came to N>Y> city in 1902. He was one of 9 children. His father, George was also one of many children. In fact several generations had at least 6 children. Hope this helps a bit. If you have internet, try Familysearch.com (Mormon), England, etc. Peggy

Do you know where George Coxon lived? THe 1870 census of Eastchester, NY shows a George Coxon, he was b. 3/18/1867, bapt. 9/6/1867 at St James Church in Scarsdale. Parents are James and Susannah (Susan) Coxon. George was one of many children. My ggrandmother was his sister.

Hi. Your message was forward to me. Your George Coxon lived very near my husband's family in Greenwich, Ct. George was one of 9 children born in Osmonton, Derbyshire, Eng. He came to US in 1902 and married Jane (Susan) Johnson (Johanson). George and Jane had a son, George (only child). But George Sr. was thew son of George and Sarah Taylor Coxon who also lived in Brailsford and Shirley, Derby., Eng. From George, B. 1877 back the generations had very large families with many sons. Very possible you are descended from one of the brothers or cousins. Have many Coxon names of Derbyshire, but don't know how they or if they connect to my Coxons.
Have you checked the federal census? The 1880 census and 1900 would help determine when they came to the US. Keep in touch and email further data for me to work with.
Peggy.

My George Coxon was a younger brother of my ggrandmother, Mary Jane Coxon. They were both born in the U.S. Mary Jane probably in New Rochelle, NY, and George in Eastchester NY area. Mary Jane was born 1851 and George , as I mentioned in 1867.
Census records of NY in 1850, 1860, 1870 show James and Susannah Coxon (parents) born in England. They apparently came to Canada first, since children Anne and William listed on 1850, and 1860 census as born Canada (Anne in 1847, and Wm. 1849.) Next is Mary Jane- US born in 1851. So they obviously migrated to New Rochelle from somewhere in Canada. I have not yet had any success in finding the ship they came to Canada on or where James and Susannah were married either in England most likely) or in Canada.
Do you have any suggestions for me to begin to trace this?
Thanks.
Susan
