I have George Coxey as the son of Absalom Coxey of North Carolina. I've found George on several Census records with the same birth date 1801. There is a second George A. Coxey whose parentage I do not know, although I'm convinced he is related. George A. Coxey was born in 1823 according to at least two census records so he could be a nephew of George Coxsey and a Grandson of Absalom. He lives near my Solomon Fouts throughout Census records. Although, I have found several census records for this George A. Coxey, I have no way of putting him in my records. I don't how to tie him in. He married Martha Cromwell. His children are Elizabeth, Partelia, Andrew, John, Nancy, Mary, James and Alice. In 1850, George A. Coxey is found in Murray County, GA. In 1860, he's found in Polk County, Tennessee. And I haven't looked for him after that because I don't know who he is. Also, very interesting....I have a John T. Coxey who married Emaline Fouts (daughter of Solomon) on 27 June 1867...she was 16. She is living back in the home of her father in 1870 as Emaline Coxey. Then goes on to marry James Hale about 1881 and Henry Bray in 1890. Mary Jane Fouts (daughter of Solomon) married James Anderson Coxey on 20 January 1859 - These are my 2nd Great Grandparents. Anyone interested in figuring this all out??? It's driving me crazy!

1. GEORGE4 COXEY (ABSALOM3, JOHN2, UNKNOWN1) was born 1801 in North Carolina. He married NANCY MURPHY. She was born 1803 in Tennessee.

In your posting on the Coxey's you have a Caroline Coxey b.1828. Do you know anything else about theis person. My great great grandmother was a Caroline Azubah Coxey from Polk County, Tenn. She married Elisha Davis.

Most likely your Caroline is related to my line. Polk County was a hot spot for the whole Coxey clan. I don't know if ours is one in the same. Do you have any idea who Caroline's parents were?

In your posting you give Carolina d/o/b as 1828. On Azubah Caroline Coxey Davis headstone the d/o/b is 4/20/1820. Hoe did you arrive at the 1828 date? Her d/o/d is 3/23/1905. She is buried in the Hartford Memorial Cemetery in Hartford, AR. She married Elisha Davis and had seven children. The whole family moved to Hartford, AR sometime around 1875. The two oldest boys were already married and they and their moved along with the family. It is also rumored that Caroline may have been part Indian. I know this is possible in that part of the country at that period of time. I also have a great-great grand mother from Campbell County that was part Indian. Do you know anythig about this possibly with this Coxey family?

Thanks
George Davis

My Coxey/Coxsey clan married into purely indian families more than once. The way my mother's family is built - there's just no doubt about an indian heritage. I haven't found any clear cut cases of a Coxsey being directly descended from it though. They believe that two Coxey brothers came over from England and then later an Uncle. That's the main line anyway and not completely proven.

I've seen and Azubah and Arzubah in my research but if I can't tie it in in some way - I don't enter the stuff into my tree. That's been my problem with this extra George Coxey I came up with. I can't prove how he's related so I can't include him yet. I don't know where he belongs. I guess I could add him as non-related and then maybe I'll find it sometime. Did you ever find out who Caroline's parents are? Or is that where you're stuck?

Do not know her parents. In the previous posting I related everything I know about her. Glad to see you have run across the name Azubah before. I thought it was such a strange name. She had one grand daughter that also was named Azubah.
Thanks for the info on the Coxey brothers from England.
Keep my inquirery in mind and if you run across the Azubah name again let me know.

Hi George. How do you know Azubah Coxey was Azubah Caroline? I had thought she MIGHT be Azubah Elizabeth because of a Tennessee Census record I found. I am a descendant of hers via Benjamin Phillip Davis. I believe we have corresponded before, but this is the first I've known of "Caroline."

Sue Ann, I know this is an old thread, but I only just stumbled on it. The George A Coxey (who married Martha Cromwell) causing your conundrum is my 3rd Great Grandfather, through his daughter Alice Olella who married Abner Harrison Green. I don't know how he fits into your Coxey clan, but as to moving from Murray County, GA to Polk County, TN, that is simply a matter of crossing the Jack's River at the bridge at the state line. I grew up camping and swimming in that area. George A (for Abner) and Martha ended up in later years in Navarro County Texas, where they are buried (interestingly, their last name is spelled Coxsey on the tombstones).
