Coxe family slave cemetery? Marlboro Co South Carolina

Surnames: Coxe
I have recently inherited some land in the Brownsville area of Marlboro County, South Carolina, on Coxe Road and Sandy Grove Church Road that has an abandoned and unmarked graveyard. There appears to be 20 or more graves. So far the only information I have been able to come up with is the possibility that this could be the burial site of slaves belonging to Eli Coxe (1789-1868). I need more information so that this site can be corrrectly recorded and preserved. Any information would be appreciated.

I am interested in this information. We found a Coxe cemetery on property my Husbands company owns and found another one on screw pin road just down the road. I am told these are both Coxe family cemeteries as well so I am curious if anyone has details about them .

I have not had any luck with identification for this cemetery. I have found two gravestones there with surname of Oneal, both over 100 years old, but have not been able to find any info about these persons. There are 20+ graves, all sunken in, so my guess is that they date back to the 19th century.

I don't think we are talking about the same cemetery then. I found one Coxe cemetery off Gray road near 38 and the markers were Coxe and a few others. Many had old wooden markers I believe were slaves. There was supposedly a cox family cemetery off screw pin road that was dug up by the mining company. I found some grave markers underwater where the area they were on collapsed. Its too cold to get in and retrieve them but I plan to do so in the summer. If your willing I would love to come see the cemetery on your land as well and photograph it. My email is jgordon367 at AOL.com you can look me up on facebook as I have photos posted of the coxe cemetery I found on there as well.

I have been in contact with a descendant of the Coxe family who owned the land we have been discussing. He knew some of the history of the land - It was originally a land grant in the 1600s of 10,000 acres and apparently over the centuries it was divided up by family members. This gentleman lives in California but is thinking of making a trip to the area in the summer. He has a cousin who currently owns some of the land and may know more about the cemeteries that you wrote about. I do not know if the cemetery on my land would be a part of the old ownership.
Would it be okay if I tell him about you and your interest and give him your email address in case he would like to contact you?
