My earliest known ancestor was Richard Coxe who stayed in England. Family dropped the "e". Phillip Cox migrated to NJ before 1705. Family was primarily in Sommerset Co, NJ, although some may have moved to Sussex Co. My branch of the family moved to Virginia in 1790s (now WV) to claim a Revolutionary War land grant.

I am a descendent of Benjamin Franklin Coxe b. 1808
brother to Wm, P. Coxe b. 1804 in N J. He married Diadema
Boswell in Lamar Co.,Al moved to Attala Co., Ms. then to
Baton Rouge, La. My grandfather was Richard Henry Cox(e).
I have a little data on Wm. P Coxe. He Benj. traded
property in downtown B R before Civil War. I have not been
able to get them back into a N J family. I believe they
came from Mercer Co. intermarried with the Potts. Others
say they came from Pottstown, Pa. But both list N J as birth
place.

Dear Eugene,
How thrilling to find a distant relative searching the same family I am! Yes, Wm.P. Coxe was married first to Sarah Potts from Trenton, NJ. Their dau was Virginia E. Coxe Montan. Wm. married 4 times. I have lots of land records from Baton Rouge and probates which show the death of B.F. Coxe's son, Wm. P. I send for stuff regularly from the Baton Rouge District Ct, which has been very helpful. I am also mystified abt. who their parents were. They had Ohio connections, too. Do you know who Rich. P. Coxe was? Tell me more. Pat

Richard Polidore Cox was the 2nd son of my
grandfather Richard Henry Cox(e) his 1st
wife Sarah Marie Calmes. They had 5 children
my father Cilton Paul Cox was the 5th. Richard
P Cox evidently died as a baby. I have found
his baptism in Pointe Coupee Pr. At one time
I was in touch with a lady who was from the
last marriage of William Patrick Coxe. A long
time ago I found where he went from New Orleans
to Galveston, stayed about 3 weeks returned to
N O in about 3 weeks. I believe he was 26-7 at
that time. Over the years I have been in touch
with the E B R Coxes', descendants of Wm. Potts
Coxe. My father travelled for a living he was
well acquianted with them. Unfortunately he died
at age 53 in Dec.1935. His mother died at 28
so we never knew her. Fortunately we have been in
touch with Calmes for years our genealogy
data goes back to France circa 1686.I would like to
exchange data with you on the Cox(e)s. Seems
way back someone was telling me about Virginia E Coxe,
but I don't believe we made a connection.Am
anxious to hear from you !!!

They must not allow e-mails. Where are you from? City State? I spend hours every day looking for tidbits on the Coxe family and have accumulated quite a bit. Just sent for more from the Baton Rouge Dist. Ct. One interesting fact is that my grandfather Ben. F. Cox was born in Vermont in 1874, acc. to his obituary. One branch of the Cox fam. went to Vermont, acc. to the COX FAm. in America book. His father, also B.F. was married to Louisa Pucket from Livingston Parish, LA. Were they up visiting grandparents, or what? BF, Sr. died in 1907 and Bf., Jr. in 1910 after acc. in Beaumont, Tx, The elder buried in covington, and the younger in Jennings, LA

Wow! I am beginning to put this all together now. On CD#8 there is the history of the Coxe family from Baton Rouge, and I've talked to some of them on the phone, but couldn't prove our family was the same. I have court records where richard P. Coxe signed as an adult. When I went to the Archives last year I copied the birth record of a Polydora Cox to Richard in 1875. Which wife of W.P.'s were you in contact with? Charlotte Paine Williams Cox's kids? Or the last one Letitia Benjamine Terrell Cox? W.P. said his last will that Letitia's baby did not have a drop of "My blood in his vains." (1875) charlotte's 5 kids from James Y. Williams sued Charlotte W.P. for squandering their inheritance. It's a real comedy. (1850's) Then Charlotte divorced him. I am so excited to find you and learn all this.

Also at the Archives I copied this in my notebook. John Cox (rich Marie Sara Calmes) b. 16 Oct. 1874. Bpt. 11 Jan. 1876, spo. Alcede Dawthier Aug. Bertonniere, widow of Joseph Langlois (1MCL-4, 63).
Also, my"find"--B.F. Cox "Protestant" child of Wm. Patrick Cox Charlotte Paine) married June 16, 1870 (disp. for difference of religion) to Mary Josephine Lewisa Pucket (Richard Pucket Zebra (Sabra) Montgomery).
