LOOKING FOR ANCESTORS OF CHARLOTTE COWIN BORN 1843 ISLE OF MAN, MARRIED HENRY KERMODE IN 1863 on the IOM. FATHER CHAS (CHARLES) COWIN

My Cowin family was also from the Isle of Man (from family stories)but no proof, yet. The Cowin's in Washington State have a lot of information on Cowins from the Isle of Man. Perhaps they can help you. I don't have their address but they live on Cowin lane. Hope this gives you a lead.

Dear Ron, nice to hear from you. My Cowin family on the IOM consists of Charles (Chas) Cowin who i think was not married to his "partner" Isabelle/Isabella Kelly. He had a daughter though called Charlotte Cowin who was born around 1843 on the island. (I think in the Peel area of the island). Thats all the information i have. Have you tried the bulletin board specifically for those searching for relatives on the Isle of Man? If not, let me know if you want the e-mail address and i will find it for you.

Jan, I was told by my Mom, that our family traced back to the Isle of Man as well.I can more or less trace back to John Thomas Cowin whose parents were...John Cowin and Margaret Cowle. Do those names mean anything to you? or anyone out there?

The two names you gave me dont ring any bells. Do you have anymore information or have you heard of Charles (Chas) Cowin Charlottes father and Isabella Kelly her mother?

I cannot find a Charles Cowin, but i did find an Isabel Cowin in my ancestory. She was the Sister of John Thomas Cowin, daughter of John Cowin and Margaret Cowle. I followed that vein and found that Margaret Cowle's parents were John Cowle and Margaret Killey(Kelly Perhaps?). Going further down the vein, John Cowle's parents were Charles Cowle, and Isabel Kneal. I still couldnt find any proof to the name charlotte.
I did read somewhere that the Cowan/Cowin/Cowle, were sometimes confused or inter-used, as the case may be.
But in my studies, Charles Cowle DOES Go back to the Isle of Man. he was born Mar. 6 1720-21.Died Est. 1771-1813. and Isabel, born Mar 5, 1740-1741, died Est. 1772-1835. However, there was only one child that i can find. He was John Cowle B.Feb 26, 1769, D Est. 1801. Let me know if this info helps. haha, or does it confuse? :) E-mail me at CFisk101@aol.com

Yes Gwen I think your mom was right many of th Cowins (the "in" spelling) came from here..my grandfather was John James and moved to Hamilton Ontario Canada..He died in 1977 and was married to Sarah

Since your family seems to be from Ontario, do you have a cousin named Fred? I know my mother had a cousin named Fred who lived in Michigan as well.

I'm not sure about a cousin in named Fred..I'll ask the family..my Grandfather John James Cowin had a brother Thomas I believe he was a farmer on the Isle of Man..I can find out more if you like

I have a link with Kermodes and Cowins. My great grandfather Samuel James Kermode, b Birkenhead 1860 was living with his aunt Eleanor Cowin according to the 1881 census. Also resident was his sister Margaet. Samuel's father was Thomas Kermode, mother Ellen, other children William and Margaret living on IOM in 1871 with grandmother (Frances Kermode).
