My Dad was Guy Cowart of Georgia, son of Joseph Cowart, son of Lewis Grandbury Cowart ( a Traveling Methodist Minster). Looking to restart my research and hopefully plug in some holes.

Hi Uncle, Have you had contact with Michael Cowart recently. At the reunion he gave out a copy of a narrative of the family that he had done. Has traced family back to England, we were known as Coward's? Send e-mail sometime, love to correspond with you.

My husband's grandfather was Lewis Grandberry Cowart of Lee, Ga. who was married to Mary Jane McCrae. He died in April of 1925 in Unoin Grove, Ala. His father was Nathaniel Lewis Cowart & mother was Susie Bowlin. Lewis G. birthday is listed as Oct. 19, 1847 in Lee, Ga. There was another marriage listed in 1879 to Exah Matilda Stephens. They were married in Chattooga, GA. There was also one child Joseph Thomas Cowart.born in Harralson, Ga. or Summerville, Ga. in 1873. I don't know if this is the same family , but the name Grandberry is not that common. Hpoe this helps.

Ruth, would love to hear from you at my E-mail. Your husband and i are related through Lewis. He was my great Grandfather. Jospeh was my Grandfather and William Guy Cowart was my Dad. The family used to travel back and forth to visit each other but perhaps you can help me gather more info on the ancestors. Look forward to hearing from you. Donc6168@aol.comDon

All the information I have is about Lewis G.'s son Nathaniel Noel C., who was my husband's father. He was born in Ga. but relocated to Ala.., married Susie Bowlin and had nine children. My husband was the baby of the family. His father died in 1943 and his mother died in 1946 when he was 6 years old. There was Noel, Erlene, Flora, Hayden, John L., Gladys S., Charles L., Mary Nell & my husband , who was named Carl Ray, but changed his name to Raymond J. in 1949 when he went to live with his sister Flora who had moved to Phila. Penna. Only surviving members of family are John L. (Hanceville, Ala.) Gladys S. (Canton, Ga.) Charles L. ( Gadsden, Ala.) Mary Nell (Huntsville, Ala.) & my husband Raymond ( Fort Mill, S.C.)
