I am searching for any information on the Cowans family. My grandfather Robert Cowans, born in Oklahoma, was of African descent and my grandmother, Floy Lee Edwards(Cowans), born in Teaxas, was of Indian descent (possibly Sequios). My grandparents left Okmulgee, OK and migrated to California. Their children were, biblical names, Nathaniel (my father), Matthew, Isaiah, John......and possibly others. I recently came across this site and found that they all had passed away......the family I never knew. Please help if you have information that may lead me to the living Cowans. Thank You!

Re: Cowans-Edwards and our ancestors in common.
Hello.I too am a Wybark & Okmulgee Oklahoma Cowans by birthright. Emma married Joseph Cowans "The African". He was an escaped slave. Joseph was a first cousin of my 2X great grandfather. I've been searching my family history for quite some time and have close to 200 years of Cowans family history that goes back into the days of slavery. I have pictures and artifacts tool . Please let me know if you are interested. Also, please feel free to pass my contact info to other family members.
Could I also get your mother's name. I'm sure I may already have info on her or info she would like.

Re: Cowans-Edwards and our ancestors in common.
I am the 4x's great grandson of Robert Cowan... The son of the slave owner Thomas Cowans his mother I believe was Bettie or Bittie Cowan... The Cowans eventually birthed the Collins family... of Muskogee OK. It's my understanding that ROBERT COWANS was one of the first to settle in Indian territory in that time..
