Cowan questions going back in time....

Cowan questions going back in time....

Classification: Query
Surnames: Cowan
I know there is a large contingent of the Cowan family in Alabama (from John Glover Cowan, I believe) that had a wonderful website until the webhost was closed down.

I am trying to find out more about James Cowan. Born in Northern Ireland, around 1719
the family moved through the south (Abbeville, "Cowan's Ferry". etc.... some went north and some stayed south... to Alabama and Mississippi.

Any help concerning James Cowan would be wonderful.
One of our cousins is making an Ireland trip this fall.

Dear JLCowan59, I may have a connection with you. I find my ancestor in New Jersey with a witness to the document being James Cowan 1735. In addition, by Y-DNA analysis with FTDNA my haplotype is R1a1a and there are about ten others in the haplogroup. We are closely related by Y-DNA. Some of the other members had ancestors coming to Charlestown, South Carolina in 1772 from the town of Ballymoney in Antrim. You and I may have some genealogical information to exchange. Please Contact me at cowan@ix.netcom.com . Sincerely, Andy Cowan
