I'm looking for William Cowen or Cowan and perhaps other variants of the name. His occupation was a Carrier in 1876, He must have been at least 36 and older as he had a son around 18.
I haven't found him on the census anywhere in the UK.
Any clues?

I can check the UK censuses too, but would need to know where in the UK William was? Do you have a wife's name, was she still living at the time. What was his son called?

Without these, we wouldn't know where to begin!

You say he was a carrier in 1876; where did you find this, have you a document?
