Wanted to add in addition to prior comment, that per what I have, or have assumed, is that my Charlotte Hammond was the sister of Matthias Hammond, not of his son Henry. Assumption was made on the naming patterns used in family lines in those periods. Have also assumed she had a sister named Elizabeth but have no other siblings for her at this time.

I have not researched this line in some time so my recollection may be off.

Again, please email me directly so we can exchange addresses if snail mail is your choice to use.

Thanks!

Hammond/Secrest photos are a rarity, to me at least. I would highly like to compare notes with you and see the photos if possible. I would like to compare them with what few are "thought" to be Hammond/Secrest to see if there is any resemblance.

I posted my email address a couple replies back, if you'd like to contact me directly and we could exchange addresses if snail mail is your preference.

Per the informant (Mary L. Coursey) on the DC for Thomas M. Coursey, he was born in Maryland. His parents are shown as Richard Coursey & Rose Lemon. To my knowledge, these are none of mine. And that is the problem that most Coursey researchers (on any of the TX lines) find - the various lines don't tie together.

I posted my email address in the reply to the other person. You can get mine from there if you want to chat anymore on this subject. You can also find me on Find A Grave website listed as "Deb". I am contributor #46832182.
Hi Linda, I saw this old post and wanted to touch base with you on the Coursey lineage. I just recently proved my Coursey lineage to Gideon Mason Coursey and Lavina Brady. Lou Ella Coursey had a brother, Henry Mason Coursey. They are the grandchildren of Gideon Mason Coursey and Lavina Brady. And also the niece and nephew of Furney Foalding Green. I'm trying to document the parents of Lou Ella and Henry Coursey. Their mother was a Green and their father was a Coursey and A SON OF Gideon Mason Coursey. I think the son may be Lemuel Coursey. Wondering if we can compare our trees/family knowledge? By the way my Lou Ella Coursey married Dennis Lewis in 1885 Falls County, Texas. My Lewis and Coursey's lived in Limestone, Falls County, Robertson County, etc in Central Texas. I look forward to hearing from you ! Kathy Shelton Hoyt
email: texkat223@yahoo.com and my tree username is Texasshelton on ancestry.com, name of tree is Shelton/Lewis/Byrd/Coursey/Pilkington/Burroughs ( May not be in that order) Thank You!

I may have information on Henry M. Coursey b. 1872 in Texas. The 1880 Fed. Census for Enum. Dist. #39 Falls Co., Texas lists him as a grandson of Gideon M. Coursey. There is no listing for Lou Ella she may have been living with another relative, although I have no data regarding her. Gideon had 3 sons b. Texas Benjamin A. b. 1843 listed as deaf and dumb, no marriage data-William L. b. 1845 married twice 2nd wife M.A. Oliver b. Texas children C.C. b. 1874 and S.R. b. 1877 Texas-John Wiley b. 1848 married twice neither wife listed as b. Texas.

I do not yet know Lou Ella Corsey/Caursey/Coursey Lewis parents nor where/when they were born. Lou Ella was born Feb 1872 in Texas according to Census records and had a brother, Henry M. Coursey according to the 1910 Census record for 1910 Justice Precint 6 Navarro, Texas also born in 1872, Texas....

Dennis and Lou Ella Lewis had these children:
Andrew Jackson Lewis married Oda Gertrude Boatwright
Thomas Lewis born abt. 1888/1889 I have no further research on Thomas.
Margarette Mae Lewis married James Edward Shelton July 3, 1910 in Navarro County, Texas.
Bertha Gertrude Lewis married a Gann sometime after 1930
Pearl E. Lewis I have no further reserach on her
Lillian Viola Lewis may have married a Maler, I'm reasearching now...
Oliver Lewis born abt. 1897/1898 I have no further research on. He is not in the 1910 Census record so may have died between 1900 and 1910
Lou Ella Lewis states on the 1910 Census record she is the mother of 10 children and only 5 are living.

Lou Ella Lewis is consistant in the Census records that she was born in Texas, her father born in Texas and her mother born in Texas. Henry M Corsey/Caursey/Coursey also states in Census records he is born in Texas and also is parents were born in Texas.
I have found these spellings in Census records, Marriage record and two death records for Corsey/Coursey/Caursey.

Are you related or doing research on Corsey/Coursey/Caursey?

She married Dennis Lewis in 1885 in Falls County, Texas. Lou Ella has a brother, Henry M. Corsey/Coursey. Also, looking for any information on Dennis Lewis ( Born abt 1860, Missouri)

Thanks. I think that may be the wrong Minnie. Could be a daughter. The one I am looking for was born in Aug 1869 and
died 1931. Maiden name Hartswick middle initial J.
Maybe in ElPaso but there aren't many pix or info on cemeteries
there at least I can find.
...lew...

I guess since its a flat marker it may now be covered by grass and was missed possibly.

Not to muddy the water, but I think the father of James Coursey(b.c.1791-6) was Absalom Coursey. Absalom lived in Jefferson County as did James Coursey until after 1830. I suspect that William Coursey was the grandfather of James, not his father.
