Hi Mike,
I have found out more information regarding the our Couchots. I found two N.J. Couchots - father and son. The N stands for Nicolas (the jr. spelled it Nicholas) and the J is not for Joseph but for Jean. Somehow my grandmother's names were switched "Eugenia Frances" to Frances Eugenia, and she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Emma (nee DeLaet) Couchot. This information I got from her death certificate.
Frank was the brother of Nicholas, Jr. I was getting rather frustrated trying to find info on my grandmother, so I decided to take another route and did a search for her sister, Ursula - no luck. But then I did a googled Ursula Couchot and found a page that had everybody on it going back to the the 1600s in France - actually in Hannonville-sous-Cotes, Meuse, France, I did not find any Canadian connection but did find the the above town is in the Lorraine area of France, almost due west of Metz.
The website is:

I hope this helps. Any problem, let me know.
