Hi, I have only just read your message. My mother was a Cotching. Her great uncle William Cotching was the partner in Hanbury & Cotching in Taunton. the brewery was demolished and Lidl is now on the site! May I ask what is your connection to the Cotching family? It may help you to know that Joseph Alexander Cotching, my great grandfather is possibly the one you are searching for, but he was asolicitor in Horsham Sussex, his brother William the brewer in Taunton Somerset. I hope this helps ypou, and I would love to be in touch re. the ancestor hunting - Regards, Gill Gray

Thank you for replying. My grandmother was Margaret Eldridge Cotching, her father was Alec Cotching. According to records I have, his father was Wm Glenister Cotching and his mother was Cath Eldridge Paysane Cotching. I don't have anyone with family history to confirm these details so I'm hoping that the information that I have found already is correct. I would love to know whether this is the same family as yours and whether you have any further information that would help me. Look forward to hearing from you Regards Ci-Aeron Young

Hi, I was really pleased to get you reply so quickly! I am going to give you my email address so we can communicate more easily - grng49@yahoo.co.uk - Well, there is one name that jumps out in your post - William Glenister Cotching was my great great uncle born to Thomas Cotching, in 1855,and brother to my great grandfather Joseph Flint Alexander Cotching, born 1855. Joseph trained as a solicitor and William as a brewer, both sharing lodgings in Lewes Sussex, but right now I can't remember the exact date. The name Glenister appears to be a family name but as yet I haven't found out when it became a regular name in the family, my uncle was Edward Glenister Cotching, and my brother is William John Glenister Nall Gray. I was delighted to see in your post that William G's mother was Margaret Eldridge. I don't know where you live of course, but until recently I lived in West Dorset, near to Dorchester, which is home to the recently defunct Eldridge Pope Brewery, founded by Sarah Eldridge in about 1830. I have masses of information about all this but two years ago I moved to Spain and all my possessions are still in a lock up in Weymouth including the family information. However I would love to stay in touch with you re. the family history. My cousin, Claire and I researched a great deal before I came to Spain, and between us we have quite a comprehensive collection of information. Do email me or Facebook if you have an account. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon ' Gill
