I am also trying to search my family tree. I have just discovered that my Great-grandmothers maiden name was Isabella Cotcher and my Grandmother was born in Robinsons Fold, Queen Street, Whitehaven, Cumbria 7/10/1885. Might there be a connection?

I, also, have been trying to find out about my family tree. My maiden name is Nancy Louise Cotcher. My father, Archie Cotcher was born in 1933. His father Maynard Angus Cotcher came to the US (I'm not sure in what year) from the Isle of Mann (so I am told). His father was also named Archie (my father was named after him).
I haven't been able to go back any father than that and I'm afraid I don't have too much information. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Nancy

Is it possible that Cotcher and Cotching are the same family - given spelling differences until standardization? I can trace my Cotching family back almost continuously to 1630s then a gap and the knowledge that somewhere in the Domesday Book the family is mentioned - yet to be discovered. I hce some scant knowledge of Cotchings in New Zealand and South America - and the memory of my grandmother saying the origins are in France - do you have any connection? Would love to hear.
