Re: Andres Cota (b. abt 1700, MEX) descendants
Hey, I saw your message and thought you would be a good person to contact, cause you seemed to have some info about Cotas. My close ancestors (like maybe about 4 generations back?) were from Baja California, Mexico. They were from the cities of La Paz (where there's a 'Cota' Street, kind od dusty but...), and Santa Rosalia (french mining town, lot's of french there, a mini Eifel Tower, Eifel's church design was used there). Then a few came to Tijuana Mexico, bought a lot of land and were a wealthy family. From what I know almost all of them had a chance to go to school if they wanted and it shows they had some money to have that choice in Mexico at the time. (I say choice, cause here and there there are some Cotas who didn't do well at all, and their brother did great...). I also seem to rememeber seeing a post that a Cota's grandfather was in the french army. Another said that it came from Spain then spread out to France and Italy. I also saw a few posts about some Idian tribes named Cota. These were in Arizona, and from Minnesota? (but a french name town). There was also a Cota post from Canada (there's a lot of french there) I tried to go on Yahoo in France and looked up Cota Family (Famille). I saw some french article about Martin Luther. I Pasted it on an internet french-english translator and it turns out that Martin Luther tutored some french Cotas and he converted the mother; starting out a protestant family religion. (I assume the Cotas were doing OK to be tutored by a famous Luther). Conclusion...Cota = A very french name, the cotas indians were most liekly named Cota by the dicoverers, as the Dieguits in San Diego (My home town). More cotas came over to the mining company in Baja Mexico. They kept on dicovering, naming the natives, an old house in San Diego's old town that is now destroyed), buying land. And now one produced me! If this helps, Great! cause i hope i didnt type this for nothing (this cota has a literature paper he puched back cause of this email). But I hope to hear from you, I'm sure whatever you know will help a lot. Fernando Cota Jr PS Like me there's a lot of Engineers in our family, also a few architects, and more of that side brained careers. Is this true with yours too?

French Canadian Cota surname
Read your message. You are the first person I have found to mention the Cota's of Canada, or French speaking Quebec. My Great grandfather was one of these Quebec, French Cota's. I have no other trace of him though. Do you know any thing about these Cota's?

Alfredo Solis Cota m. Emilia Carriaga
My relatives are from Baja California. My father's grandfather is French. His family all came from France and settled in Baja California. Some stayed in La Paz, Santa Rosalia, Baja California, others settled in California and Arizona. Some were miners.
My dad's grandfather's name was Alfredo Solis Cota born in the 1800's (not sure of exact date). Married Emilia Carriaga. Had one child (my grandfather) Jesus Carriaga Cota born 1905 or 1906. My dad's name is also Alfredo Cota, born 1935 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.
My dad's grandfather had some sibblings: Antonio, Francisco, Fortunato, Soledad, Paz, Maria, Rosa, Santos, Domingo and others. He can't remember all the names. He also had some cousins: Justo Cota, Felix Bosquet Cota, Pedro Miranda Cota, Agustin Cota, Domingo Cota,Candido Cota, and Maria Lopez Cota.
Please let me know if this helps or if you can help me. Thanks. Carmen

Re: Andres Cota (b. abt 1700, MEX) descendants
I have recently come into a handwritten copy of my family tree, most of which info I believe was gathered by my late grandmother. It is quite extensive going back as many as 10 generations. There are a few notes on the page but otherwise I have little supporting documentation. It contains Adres Cota (m. Angela de Leon) and lines with both of his sons Roque (m.Maria Ignacia Verdugo) and Pablo Antonio (m.Rosa Lugo). Any info you could share would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me at CAKaminsky@aol.com.
